Coastal Super-Combat by Triniti Interactive is yet another weapon-based defense title to add to the pile, but it has been some time since we've tried one of these games so lets see if anything new has cropped up.

The controls definitely fall under the heading of 'if it's not broke, don't fix it' which means that players will need to drag and around their cross-hairs to aim each weapon while firing with another button and tilting to pan across the game field. After each level you'll be awarded with cash to purchase new weapons, ammunition and upgrades for your fortress then it's straight back to the beach, jungle or city to tap away at incoming enemies once more.

There's nothing too surprising about the gameplay, but thankfully this is entirely offset by the dedication and polish that has gone in to the game's visuals. The cartoon-style visuals are beautiful and each of the three environments has unique variations as either day, night, dawn or even fog. The animations are also great to watch, with enemies flopping around after stepping on a mine and explosions ripping apart machines as you shoot them down.

Unfortunately none of the genre's main flaws of repetition and slow build-up are addressed in Coastal Super-Combat, so really this is just a polished presentation of an otherwise standard game for the App Store. If you've never played a weapon-based defender before, you could do worse than this title, but if you've seen it before then there's not much to gain by playing this one too.
