And now for something completely different. Have you ever wished you were a pirate? Sure it would have been a hard life of punching cannonballs back at ships while defending the taverns you frequent, but no one said it would be easy. That is what pirates did right?

'Pirate : Cannonball Siege' by BLACKPIXEL STUDIO takes a step off the beaten track and while all the hallmarks of a pirat-ey lifestyle are in place, other elements like your character's Asian and Viking inspired garb are somewhat less traditional. At least the gameplay itself is easy enough to follow and players need only to tap ships to select them as targets while touching cannonballs as they come in to range to punt them back at the highlighted vessel. A limit is placed on how far away you can tap from your character, but good positioning via tilting and tapping in the correct sequence will help you to teleport around, making your life a lot easier.

Despite being rather limited in its gameplay the visuals are surprisingly sharp and very well animated with smooth transitions between attacks and movement for the main character. It should also be pointed out that the game is, by default in French, though a menu option is available to switch to English, making the game a little easier to follow.

'Pirate : Cannonball Siege' is a fun and easy to enjoy time-waster, though the lack of any real gameplay depth or challenge outside of 'more cannonballs, faster ships' can lose its charm quickly. If nothing else the absurdism of punching cannonballs makes it worth checking out, but without more variety it's hard to keep coming back for more.
