It's a tadpole eat tadpole world out there. Like most of nature, the big gobble up the small, but since we as gamers enjoy playing as the underdog overcoming the odds and surviving to reach our goal, sometimes being the small is a good thing. At least in gaming terms.

In Tasty Tadpoles you have to guide your little tadpole guy to the safety of the logs, while avoiding the larger tadpoles who will swallow you whole in a heartbeat. Along the way, there are three stars to collect (of course), but what makes this game shine through its simplistic premise is the ease of movement, and the joy of control it brings. Now you wouldn't think that a game where you tap on where you want to go would be worth exploring past the idea that it works, but there's a way in which the tadpole glides to its destination, and the immediacy of its travel that make whisking around the screen quite enjoyable.

Aside from avoiding the patterns of the green tadpoles, and the encroachment of the yellow tadpoles, there are bubbles that protect you, logs that have to be pushed out of the way, and lily pads to hide under. New chapters are locked behind star acquisition, but there are secret levels that are unlocked through more interesting means such as leading a yellow tadpole around for a specific time. Now the main game is quite simplistic, and the fun of movement may not be enough for some, so for those people, there is a puzzle mode as well. It's all the original levels, but you have a limit on how many moves you can use, plus you gain a golden lily pad for completing the level under par as it were. This adds more of a strategic focus to the game rather than just gliding all over the screen.

Accompanied by enjoyable music, this is an easy yet enjoyable puzzle action experience. There are plenty of levels to plough through, as well as both modes, the secret stages, and unlockable characters to boot. If you ever wanted to swim around as a tadpole, this game will certainly give you that chance.
