Lara Croft has certainly been around the block.

Since 1996, she’s climbed onto consoles, swam onto PCs, and swung onto handhelds.

Now, though, she’s jumping over to iOS... but not in the way you might expect.

We spoke to a Ladbrokes representative to discuss the marriage of one of the biggest icons in gaming with one of the most popular genres in the smartphone market.

So, how do Ladbrokes Mobile use Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider name to make their app stand out from all the other slot machines on the App Store?

“A new storyline, called the The Secret of the Sword, was created exclusively for the app," the Ladbrokes representative explains.

“With brilliant, almost photo-realistic graphics, stunning sound effects, and dynamic action, the game takes players on a hunt for a priceless sword relic in mysterious locations around the world.

"The players encounter both riches and dangerous traps in truly dynamic Tomb Raider style - users will go on a journey that will keep them on the edge of their seat.”

Sounds like the app stays true to the Tomb Raider experience, then... in some ways at least.

According to the Ladbrokes representative, though, the thrilling action in Ladbrokes Tomb Raider won’t be the only thing keeping players on the edge of their seat.

If you hadn't already guessed, the classic addictive slots gameplay soon comes to the forefront.

As well as the usual five-reel spinners, Ladbrokes Tomb Raider offers bonuses, free spins, scatter awards, and free games.

These bonus games are designed to be more interactive than a regular slots game, with the lure of bonus prizes providing a reel (geddit?) incentive to keep playing.

The Ladbrokes representative also promises "massive monetary prizes are available to win, with up to 450x multipliers available at certain points in the game. All players have to do is place a wager - from as little as 1p to a maximum of £60.”
