Chinese developer Playcrab is inviting you into the continent of Edenia when its action RPG Dynasty of Dungeons is released later this week.
Combining the fantastical with the gothic - and ancient mythology with the demonic - the game looks to reinvent a genre that often settles for bog-standard storylines and unoriginal art styles.
The game has an in-depth story that sees you play as the Overlord, fighting against the demons and kings of the game’s many provinces. You can then have them join your army to conquer further enemies if you so wish - and also compete against other overlords online, accompanied by your legion of Demons.
In terms of gameplay though, Dynasty of Dungeons looks to innovate by combining both strategy and action. In order to win a battle you need to analyze the strategic capabilities of your opponent before even jumping onto the battlefield - and make sure you can exploit their weaknesses successfully.
The turn-based fighting system therefore rewards well laid out tactics, but there is also the need to seize every opportunity in battle by employing your character’s special trick at exactly the right moment, unleashing a fatal attack on your rival.
There are plans to expand Dynasty of Dungeons beyond its first release too, with many exciting updates containing further story arcs, maps, functions, events, heroes, weapons to come.
The developer warns that Dynasty of Dungeons is not for the faint of heart, but if you’re looking for a game that looks to shake up the action RPG genre it arrives on the App Store on November the 27th.
