Brain Twirler set to uh... Twirl your Brain?
This interesting looking puzzle game is set for release on the 11th of April. It is one of those really no frills experiences, as the screenshot and upcoming trailer will show you, but the gameplay looks engaging enough to forgive that, at least where puzzle games are concerned. Though it does bring up an interesting point. If your core gameplay is engaging enough, there's no excuse for lackluster presentation. I mean this doesn't even have music (at least in the trailer). While gameplay is arguably the most important aspect of a videogame, presentation is important too. It doesn't have to be spectacular, but at least make an effort.…
Master of Alchemy - Vengeance Front Review
Isn't it interesting what sort of ideas can be turned into tropes in a specific genre? By now everyone has played some version of that puzzle mechanic where you guide the path of a laser with angled mirrors. Likewise, most of you have probably played the game where you have to guide the droplets into a vat through the use of angled barriers. Master of Alchemy: Vengeance Front is a new version of that, complete with steampunky contraptions and reverse gravity. Each level starts with a…
Watch The Video ReviewRobi: Cosmic Savior Review
In a lot of these planetary defense games, there's a real sense of scope and responsibility. You're responsible for the continued existence of a planet beset either by aliens or asteroids (or alien controlled asteroids). Robi: Cosmic Saviour takes a more relaxed approach... in theory. His size plus the layout of the planet makes you think that this little robot lives peacefully out on some small moon, but his home is constantly under siege by space monsters. This is where the peaceful…
Watch The Video ReviewApp Wrap Up (Week Ending 5th April, 2013) - iPad Edition
Heya and hola dear readers. Over my time writing these App Wrap Ups, I have collected trailers for alternate versions of the article. Primarily it's focus is on iPhone games, but there are a host of iPad only games as well that get overlooked, and seeing as I have no iPhone trailers to work with this week, I thought I'd dig out out some of these links. Now especially for this first iPad segment, the trailers I'm about to show you are from last year, and some date back to at least mid 2012. This shouldn't matter because an interesting game is an interesting game, but I just thought I'd let you know. Ok then, let's look at some trailers for iPad only titles! Octacube (Eyal revivo)…
QI's Top 10 iPhone Games for March, 2013
It's that time of the month again. Yes, it's time for the Quality Index's picks of March's most popular critical games (according to their aggregate sources), but more than that, when the QI list rolls around, you know Appspy's Top 3 isn't too far away at all! I'd say look for that early next week. If i'm wrong, blame Andrew! 1. Ridiculous Fishing - A Tale of Redemption2. Brickout Zero Gravity3. Word Soup4. Cling!5. Super Stickman Golf 26. Nimble Quest7. King Cashing 28. Totems9. The Silent Age10. Block Fortress I'm trying something new this month that might help you out if you look at that list and want to see why these titles made their t…
Vendetta Online Releases on iPad April 17th
Some MMO fans might be familiar with Vendetta Online. Launched in 2004 (but running since 2002), this space based action online experience is coming to mobile devices, and by mobile, I mean it's being ported to the iPad on April 17th. We don't review too many MMOs here at Appspy because of the time investment needed to give them a fair look, but watching the trailer, it looks like not only an enjoyable experience, but pretty amazing that you'll be able to play it on the comfort of your own tablet.…
[UPDATED] Nimble Quest Review
When it comes to the freemium model, Nimblebit are one of the better developers at offering unique and interesting game experiences with a no cash up front policy, and thankfully their games aren't too inundated with in-app purchases or wasting your time as a gamer. Their latest effort Nimble Quest takes the foundation of the ever popular mobile experience, Snake, and turns it into a simple roleplaying game, albeit one that is more interested in lining up heroes than leveling one up (a…
Watch The Video ReviewDream Tim Review
Not to be overly judgmental of the protagonist of Dream Tim, but if you're dreaming of putting yourself in an endless runner, regardless of the reasons or the reward at the end of the unlockable chapters, you might need to get yourself some professional help. Yes, Dream Tim is the latest in the endless runner genre, but it decides to take a bold stance, and do away with the normal run and jump gameplay, replacing it with a swiping mechanic to destroy monsters and grab coins. If it actu…
Watch The Video Review[UPDATE] Order & Chaos Duels - Trading Card Game Review
[Editor's Note: After further gameplay testing we've noted several points in the campaign where the AI is provided with what can only be described as severly imbalanced abilities and decks. These will act as roadblocks preventing progression, though the exact placing of said roadblocks will depend on your character and their deck/abilities. Sadly it comes down to luck as to whether you'll draw better than your opponent in these cases and it would be good to see the pogression evened ou…
Watch The Video ReviewFirst look at Moebius
Moebius is the latest game by adventure game luminary Jane Jensen. For those of you unfamiliar with her work, she is most famous for the Gabriel Knight series. Last year her kickstarter campaign for a new game was funded, and this trailer based on an alpha build of the game was released to her kickstarter backers, who will be providing feedback. Already it looks quite intriguing as a story, if not a little flat and sparse in the animation department. The backgrounds are very eye catching however. Plans are to show the game off at this year's E3. No word on when they're looking to release but I would imagine sometime this year, perhaps in quarter four. As this is being released on iPad alo…
Have a Blast... with Dragons!
Coming out this Thursday in the App Store in Dragon Blast. A pretty simple physics puzzler in the vein of games like Angry Birds. While it does look rather derivitive, the longer I watched the trailer, the more I found a certain charm in the level design that I think could be enjoyable. Have a look at the trailer for yourselves and see what I mean.…
App Wrap Up (Week ending 29th March, 2013)
Hey Hey Appspy readers, and welcome to another installment of the App Wrap Up, your favourite regular feature on our site! Last week's picking were sparse indeed but don't fret, this week I have a bunch of trailers to more than make up for it! As always, these games are based solely on their trailers, and if you like what you see, well that's why we add the link to the App Store. Let's get started! AHOGE CHANBARA (MMXIII M2 Co., Ltd.) This is one of the more interesting takes on an Infinity Blade-esque dodge and attack game i've seen. The anime characters attacking with their hair have a certain charm to them that lends some possible enjoyment to this title.[App Store Link]…
Snoopy Coaster Review
Snoopy Coaster is insidious. Last year Dave reviewed Madcoaster, and thought that it was an intriguing premise made far too forgiving, so much so that the game became quite boring. Well then why is Snoopy Coaster better when it's basically the same game with a different skin? well because Dave is a Peanuts fan of course, and while it's easy to sneer at a game using a licensed property to try and pull in fans of that property, the sad truth is that it works. Now don't get us wrong, this…
Watch The Video ReviewAbalone® Review
We've spoken about the renaissance of board games on the iOS before, but one great thing about it aside from fans of these games having digital and portable copies of their favorite titles, is for gamers to experience games in this category that they have never come across. This is the case with us here at AppSpy and Abalone. On the surface it looks like a version of Chinese Checkers but once the rules of the game are explained you'll find one of those games that is simple to learn, bu…
Watch The Video ReviewEndgame: Syria Finally Approved for App Store... kind of
After three submission on the App Store, and being released already both on Android and PC, Endgame: Syria is finally available on iOS devices. The catch? They just had to remove all references to the country of Syria and the conflicting forces there-in. Developer Tomas Rawlings of 'Game the News' explains the situation in this quote: "We've come to the end of three rejections and one appeal and the only way we've been able to get Endgame:Syria out on iOS was to remove all references to the real world and sadly that changes it from a 'newsgame' into just a 'game'. We've released this game version so at least players with Apple devices can get a feel for what we originally intend…
