Astro Shark HD Review

Review Unit9 By Dave Flodine, 11 years, 8 months ago
Astro Shark HD Review

Astro Shark is the unlikely love story between a shark that looks like a killer whale, and a dog. Hold on, it doesn't stop being weird there. So one day the dog is kidnapped and then the kidnappers escape with it in a rocket. Not one to let this slide, the shark engages its hydro thrusters and rockets off into the cosmos after it. Apparently whale sharks can breathe in space. So on the surface this game seems like another orbital flinger where you use the momentum of traveling around p…

Fly... into.. the... Danger Boat

Fly... into.. the... Danger Boat

I couldn't resist. Anyways, this Thursday on the 14th Danger Boat hits the App Store. It looks like a tight little high score game that has you driving a boat and avoiding obstacles. If it controls as well as the footage suggests, I can see this being might addictive.…

App Wrap Up (Week Ending 8th March, 2013)

Hey hey loyal readers, and welcome to another edition of the App Wrap Up. We got a good selection of interesting game trailers to look at this week that show off games that might have something interesting to offer. Interest! Let's get started!   Tricky Shot (Dream Apps Lab.) A game based around Soccer trick shots... but instead of fancy footwork, you're kicking the ball out to hit objects in the world for points. Could be fun based on the ridiculous the game might ask of you.[App Store Link]   Sky Climb (PICxPIC) A very simplistic high score game that despite its sparse presentation looks quite enjoyable, mainly due to the simple vine switching mechanic, and the responsi…

Galactic Conflict is Homeworld for your iPad

Galactic Conflict is Homeworld for your iPad

Seriously, take a look at this trailer and tell me it doesn't invoke memories of Relic's 1999 innovative 3D RTS Homeworld? And this is fantastic news. It looks quite engaging, and includes competitive multiplayer. The game releases on March 14th, so we'll see if it plays as good as it looks.…

Developer Demo of 'Prime's Quest'

Developer Demo of 'Prime's Quest'

[EDIT] It turns out that the game has been approved by Apple and is on the App Store now.[App Store Link] I may be in the minority, but I enjoy sliding block puzzles. I think it's that you can play around with them if you're having difficulty solving the problem, so there's always something to do (for instance the 'get the ball or car out of the blocks' puzzles from the Professor Layton games were among my favourite that experience had to offer). Prime's Quest looks to put a character in the midst of these sliding blocks, giving him the ability to affect the blocks' size, making it easier to move around. This developer video explains the mechanics and shows off some brief glimpses of gamep…

Major Magnet Review

Major Magnet Review

Major Magnet is not the most observant of superheroes. In a humorously animated intro sequence, he's so happy just flying around the city, that he doesn't notice the dastardly Colonel Lastin pulling up alongside him to steal his cape, which sends the Major plummeting to the depths below. Luckily another specialty of our intrepid hero is the power of magnetism (in the literal sense, not the charismatic one). What follows is a series of small levels in which you use Major's magnet to fly…

First look at New Game from The Game Bakers

The Game Bakers, known for their popular Squids franchise, have released some footage of the new game they're working on titled Combo Crew. It looks to be a swipe based beat-em-up and while this preview is pretty wonky, it shows off what they're cooking. No word on a release window as of yet, but if you're at PAX East, you can try it out for yourself!…

Dungeon Hearts - An Interesting Take on Match-3

Dungeon Hearts - An Interesting Take on Match-3

Releasing at the end of this month, Dungeon Hearts uses match-3 for its battle mechanics. Like Puzzle Quest, it's how you defeat your enemies, but unlike that game and its 'take your time' approach, this game has the bar moving quickly towards you and seems to rely on chain combos to destroy everything (as it looks like you don't want to let your party get touched). Have a look at the gameplay trailer for a better idea.…

Explore Melodive this Thursday

Explore Melodive this Thursday

What is Melodive? Well a musical cave exploring simulator is as good an explanation as any, and if that interests you in any way, have a look at the trailer. It looks more an experience than game, but the medium is growing, and the ability to explore 3D worlds without the burden of mechanics can be fascinating. This will be one to watch out for.…

Sherlock Holmes on iPad

Sherlock Holmes on iPad

We're a little late on this one, but you know those Sherlock Holmes adventure games that have been released on the PC for the past few years? Well Big Fish Games has been porting them over to the iPad. So far they've released The Awakened, and The Hound of the Baskervilles. The Awakened is particularly interesting as it's been advertised as Sherlock Holmes vs. Cthulu. Have a look at the trailer. The games are iPad only and are free to try, but cost $5 - $8 to unlock the full versions. A decent price for a PC adventure game, but when it comes to iOS price, it is a bit hefty. Hardcore adventure games and Holmes fans will probably want to pay it though to have a portable versi…

QI's top iPhone Games for February 2013

QI's top iPhone Games for February 2013

Another month has passed us by... the shortest month. February certainly had its interesting share of releases so it's time to check out what our sister site the Quality Index had to say about the top rated games.   1. Word Up Dog2. Year Walk3. Rock Blocker4. Stardust Hero5. Cordy 26. Spunk and Moxie7. Pixel People8. Feast or Famine9. Puzzle Restorer10. Syder Arcade HD   It's interesting to see that Year Walk didn't top the charts. It's also not hard to see why Cordy 2, Pixel People, and Puzzle Restorer made the list. I haven't had a look at the makings of Appspy's Top 3 yet, but I imagine you will see at least one of…

Fearless Wheels

Fearless Wheels

Fearless Wheels arrives March 12th. It's a motorcross game that reminds me more than a little of Excitebike, and that is definitely a good thing. It looks to play with speed as well as positioning on obstacles, and has some nice visuals to go along with it. Have a look at the trailer. We'll certainly be keeping an eye on this one.…

Tiliard Review

Tiliard Review

Tiliard is the fusion of tiles and billiards. How does that work you ask? Am I going to be using a pool cue to smash ceramics across a table? Well as interesting as that sounds, no... but Tiliard is plenty interesting in its own right. It's a turn based puzzle game where you need to sink all the tiled balls in the pockets of the table in as few moves as possible. Sound easy? Well there's some extra mechanics that haven't been explained yet. First and foremost, you know how in pool, ev…

Super Stickman Golf 2 Trailer Released

Super Stickman Golf 2 Trailer Released

Everyone's favourite visually simplistic puzzle golf game has a sequel coming out this month. It looks to deliver more of the same action fans are used to, and I must say that the asynchronous multiplayer function, to have everyone playing the same level flying around as you're considering your shot makes for a mayhem induced time... in a good way. Look for our review when this one finally hits (as I know Andrew loved the original).…

App Wrap Up (Week Ending 1st March, 2013)

Hey hey gentle readers (I don't know why you're gentle, it just sounded like a nice thing to say)! Welcome once again to the App Wrap Up. It's gonna be a short one this week, but I do have three game trailers to take a look at. They seem to have something interesting to offer so who knows, you might find a new favourite. Let's take a look!   Flutter: Butterfly Sanctuary (Runawayplay - NHNZ) This one almost got put in another pile. I'm saving up interesting looking education games to eventually write an App Wrap Up for parents and their children, but there was something about Flutter that made me think adults might find it interesting as well. It looks to have a 'collect-em-all…
