App Wrap Up (Week Ending, 22nd February, 2013)

Hey hey readers! It's the end of the week and we here at Appspy have another App Wrap Up ready to read. Now that the year is starting to kick into gear the releases are speeding up somewhat, but plenty of games fall through the cracks and are over looked for one reason or another. As always we have some trailers of such games, and are showcasing them here based on something interesting that they might have to offer. Without further ado, let's get started!   Super Grid Run (Refresh Creations ltd) A very pure style of endless runner. It kind of throws back to early entries in the 3d genre like Boost 3D. I hope that the control method is responsive as the onslaught of obstac…

Red Rusher is... er... Rushing into the App Store on Feb 25th

Red Rusher is... er... Rushing into the App Store on Feb 25th

While the majority of the trailer I'm about to embed sets up the story of Red Rusher, it was the brief gameplay glimpses at the end that intrigued me, with its monochrome colour pallete and 'swiping to slash' attacks. Have a look for yourself. Have a look out for this one dropping in the App Store early next week.…

Rock Slide due for iOS Sometime in March

Rock Slide just came out on Android devices, but is slated for an iOS release this March. Now a quick look at it might cause most of you to be dismissive of its simplistic visuals, but have a look at the trailer, and the puzzle gameplay underneath. I think puzzle fans will find some entertainment when this one finally gets released.…

Krashlander Review

Krashlander Review

So apparently evil robots from another planet have destroyed our world (again), and humanity's defense in this game's case is to don a suit so you can ski down slopes, crashing into the robots, and destroying them. Their one weakness! Krashlander has you traversing hazardous mountain paths with the end goal of smacking into these robots, before moving onto the next mission. It's a physics based arcade game in bite sized levels, but there is one crucial difference here, the control sche…

Save Kittens from Fire

Save Kittens from Fire

I'm not quite sure what to think about Jones on Fire, an endless runner looking title that is being released this Thursday on the 21st. It's style and music reminds me of Bit.trip Runner, but it has an endless runner look to it, and with the kitty saving, an element of games like Grim Joggers. Have a look at the trailer and see for yourself.  …

Finding Teddy Review

The little girl sleeps soundly in her bed, unaware that out of her closet, the spidery leg of a monster has stolen her precious teddy bear. Waking up to find it missing, she explores her closet only to find it transports her to a magical world full of magic, music, and danger. Finding Teddy is an adventure game that's streamlined for the iOS platform. Tapping will move the little girl to new screens, tapping will pick up objects, and tapping will open your inventory to use these items…

JOOL Review

Review ROSTLAUB By Dave Flodine, 11 years, 9 months ago
JOOL Review

Finding an endless runner these days with a unique spin on the genre is harder than you might think. With Jool, that last sentence was actually a bit of clever wordplay because what this game offers is an escape from the death that is inevitable in the genre. That's right, did your weird bird character fall from the platforms into oblivion? It's not game over, just flip your device around and continue the game playing as his malicious ego heading in the other direction. Oh, the ego fel…

Relic Rush Review

Review Crescent Moon Games By Dave Flodine, 11 years, 9 months ago
Relic Rush Review

Does anyone remember that game This Could Hurt? It used a simple touch mechanic to stop the player character in his tracks as you made your way through a deadly trap-laden obstacle course. Relic Rush revisits this concept, albeit in a low-fi pixel form. It also has the aura of adventure! Yes, you not only rush to get these relics, but the journey should result in a rush as well. That was at least the intention I'm guessing. Each level consists of eight rooms that have to be traveled t…

Mikey Shorts Followup... with Hooks!

Mikey Shorts Followup... with Hooks!

As those who watched my 2012 list will know, Mikey Shorts was one of my favourite games last year. Many might not know, but the creators of the game met while trading highscore slots on the game Hook Champ. This is important as their followup title Mikey Hooks is pretty much the same fast and flowing platformer gameplay... with hooks! Have a look at the sneak peak video. The only release info we have is that it will hit in Spring, so keep an eye out from March to May. I sure will be!…

Battle Line™ Review

Review Com2uS USA, Inc. By Dave Flodine, 11 years, 9 months ago
Battle Line™ Review

Sometimes I wonder if the releases coming from Gamevil suffer a soft of cultural disconnect that I just don't understand as a reviewer. Many of their releases revolve around grind-heavy mechanics with little behind the actual gameplay, while the almighty In-App Purchase paywall locks away everything you need to help you progress smoothly through the game. And despite this, these games are quite popular with a vocal fanbase; from Zenonia to Baseball Stars, and now to Battle Line. This…

Half-Inch Heist Review

Review Mutant Labs Ltd. By Dave Flodine, 11 years, 9 months ago
Half-Inch Heist Review

There aren't really too many games in which you get to pull off a heist. Oh sure there's a bank robbery in Grand Theft Auto 4, and there are games like The Getaway that pay homage to those types of movies, but the act of planning an elaborate thieving of some priceless artifact or gem is not really seen. Despite its name, Half-inch Heist really isn't the type of game to provide this experience. No, what we have here is more a quick reflexes arcade experience wrapped up in an eight bit…

Tumblewords Review

Tumblewords Review

We don't review too many word games here at AppSpy, at least not lately. This hasn't been for lack of releases either. It's just that after you've played one or two word creation games and then notice that the majority of releases are doing pretty much the same thing, it's hard not to be pessimistic and ignore a lot of what comes out (we should probably be doing that to the endless runner genre, but that's a topic for another time). Now Tumblewords does not reinvent the wheel. You have…

Ragdoll Boxing Flopping onto iPad

Ragdoll Boxing Flopping onto iPad

Start your week off with a bit of amusement and watch this gameplay trailer of the upcoming multiplayer iPad game, Ragdoll Boxing. It releases February 21st and it kind of reminds looks like what would happen if a boxing game were made as a sequel to QWOP. Plus what other boxing game has you able to play as a gorilla?…

App Wrap Up (Week Ending 15th February, 2013)

Hey hey readers and welcome to another installment of the App Wrap Up! Let's end this week in gaming by looking at some games that might have fallen under the radar. Based on their trailers, I think they may have something interesting to offer, so I present them to you along with links to the App Store in case anyone wants to make a purchase. Without futher ado, let us begin.   Tic Stac Toe (Accomplice Productions, LLC) Yes game wise, this is a low fidelity Connect 4, but it's the different sized grids combined with the varied backgrounds that could make this take on a simple game a little more complex and enjoyable.[App Store Link]   Bipolar (Mike Colussi) Draw a si…
