Recess Riot Review
If you're going to use an art style reminiscent of the 80s in all its eight-bit glory, and the game is based around recess, you best do your research about the games of the time. I mean yes, I’m showing my age here, and there was jump rope and dodge ball, but we also played four square and wall ball! Well there is a 'coming soon' icon in the game, so hopefully this can be addressed in a future update. All kidding aside, Recess Riot is a collection of two arcade based mini-games…
Watch The Video ReviewCrazy Cars Returns!
The original Crazy Cars was released in 1987 for the Amiga that received average reviews. To remind you of what we're dealing with, here's some gameplay footage. Now Anuman Interactive is recharging the franchise with the release of Crazy Cars: Hit the Road (not to be confused with the Sam and Max game with the similar title). Here's a trailer. Slated for release on October 15th, this looks like a nice update and could be worth a look, but there is already a large arcade racer market on the iOS so we'll have to wait and see how it holds up.…
Relaxing Lanterns
Haven't you ever just wanted to lounge back and relax by connecting floating lanterns together? If so, the soon to be released game Lanterns by Sydney-based developer Big Time is ready to release as soon as possible (they're just waiting for Apple's final confirmation). Have a look at the trailer and see what you think. There's definitely a zen-like vibe going on - equal parts of Bejewelled and Fruit Ninja definitely shine through and we'll be covering it once the game is available.…
Shear Madness
Oh!Sheep is a mixture of Spy Mouse line drawing and the Commandos strategy gameplay of co-ordinating mutiple characters to accomplish an objective (or at least that's the idea). Have a look at the trailer! Its release is planned for the first half of October.…
You owe me a new Acorn
Squeak squeaker squeak squeaken. Yeah sorry, when i see a game that features a squirrel called Squeaky, that quote instantly springs to mind. Squeaky at the Fair has to use the rotation of giant wheels to escape a giant wheel himself. It looks like the gameplay of Knights of the Round Cable, with a focus on side scrolling progression rather than score quotas. Have a look at the trailer. The game releases this Thursday…
Cosmic Bump Review
We do get some odd aliens that crash land on our planet. In Cosmic Bump, these cute little critters need to collect fuel cells to get back into space, and their collection method is a strange one. One might even say inefficient. First they launch themselves into the air where they've set up all manner of pinball-esque contraptions to throw their bodies around until they've reached quota. Failure doesn't only mean being stranded, it also results in a sickening splat upon the hard paveme…
Watch The Video ReviewSpace Holiday Review
Everyone deserves a holiday, and hey, if the holiday is in space and you're in no danger of explosive decompression, all the better! Space Holiday is a simple little puzzle game in which you have to chart a course around the level's stars excluding all those nasty asteroids that might impede your travel as a portal opens off to a new constellation. The crux of this puzzle experience is in connecting all the stars via a line, with no asteroids being in the middle of the shape that's cr…
Watch The Video ReviewAugmented Bug Zapper
Well bug shooter may be more appropriate. We don't usually review Augmented Reality Games here at Appspy. Mostly because they're very annoying to record, but also because aside from the initial gimmick of playng your game in the real world, the positive play expereince doesn't last very long. Nevertheless, sometimes we like to show off what's happening in that space. Here's the trailer for Bugs Mayhem. Seeing the game is free, why not give it a try and see if blasting bugs in real locations appeals to you.[App Store Link - iPhone][App Store Link - iPad]…
Amp, Watts & Circuit Review
Sometimes, even robots need a vacation. In Amp, Watts & Circuit, you control the titular characters trying to escape their jobs, in the hopes of some well deserved rest and recuperation. Each level has you in a small isometric area full of buttons and traps, and a starting and finishing tile for each of the three characters. Tapping on the character's portrait will switch to them, and then tapping on the screen will move them in that direction, and if there's no spikes or pits on…
Watch The Video ReviewApp Wrap Up (Week Ending 21st September 2012)
Hey Hey everyone. It's the end of the week and i have another App Wrap Up for you. As always, here are some games that you might like to play based on their trailers. If you do purchase one and give it a try, why not tell us what your thoughts of it are in the comments? Well, let's get started! Blue Libra (Orator Games) A real time space strategy game. I wonder if it plays like Galcon, or if it's more about squads and strategic placement. Regardless, it looks like a fun romp for strategy fans.[App Store Link] iTapPirate ( Inter Illusion) Part of this looks like a first person action game, the other part is reminiscent of Lethal Enforcers. Oh, and it features pirates, so tha…
Rail Rush Review
There's something inherently enjoyable about mine cart rides in videogames. From Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom to Donkey Kong Country, they remain a memorable part of those titles. Wait, did I say enjoyable? I must have meant hair-tearingly frustrating. Well luckily Rail Rush isn't that psychotic. I mean it eventually becomes that way the longer you play for, but being in the same vain as Temple Run, this sort of exponential difficulty is expected. The formula here is pretty st…
Watch The Video ReviewLookOut - Blizzard Review
No one ever thinks about the plight of the poor snowball. Created to be hurled, rolled, exploded and forgotten. Even its dreams of growing and becoming something more can be stopped by the callous whims of the elements. In this tale of snowball survival the stakes are a lot higher, with literal elemental forces of fire, water, and earth among others, shooting cross screen to turn our balled protagonist into nothing more than a hail of white powder. In design Lookout-Blizzard plays a l…
Watch The Video ReviewDon't rain on my parade in October
While a game like Negative Nimbus may be outside our standard game fare, being as it's targeted for young children, i felt that the sense of humour and fun was prominent enough, and the concept interesting enough to warrant a preview. Have a watch of the trailer. It should be out sometime in October.…
Motorbike Vrooming in the App Store
Physics based racing / platformer games have become a hot commodity in the past few years with plenty of attempts by developers to recreate a Trails HD, Joe Danger, or Bike Baron. Motorbike by baKno games is in the same vain, but it looks like it has the chops to succeed. Here's the trailer. The HD version has a free lite version, but at $0.99, this looks like a sure bet if you love these type of games. Look for our review sometime in the coming week.[App Store Link]…
Rollercoaster Creation Due Before the end of the Year
The success of the Rollercoaster Tycoon franchise on PC shows that people love the idea of building their own rollercoasters. Now Frontier Developments, the minds behind the Lost Winds games are releasing Coaster Crazy sometime before the end of the year. Here's the trailer. It looks like it could be a lot of fun. We'll let you know when we get a definite release date.…
