As a worldwide card game phenomenon, Yu-Gi-Oh! has seemingly done it all in their video games, but Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel manages to innovate the gameplay in a big way. On September 6th, players will be able to compete in 4 player card games in big tactical matches.
The majority of Yu-Go-Oh! video games centre on one v one match, the old Tag Force Games did do two v two, and the Duel Links app occasionally runs a two v two tournament, but a four-way free-for-all is a new and enticing prospect.
Having to take into consideration the actions of three other players instead of just one is an enticing and challenging prospect, not least because there are now three chances your Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon will be immediately banished. The choices on who to target, who to strike an alliance with and when to break that trust and throw all the traps on the field at this former ally will all need to be taken into account. Despite this new format, however, Konami claims that the new gameplay will be welcoming to even the newest duelists.
On top of this signature all-out brawl, there will be other modes to try, including four-player co-op and the standard single-player Dueling, with characters from seven Yu-Gi-Oh! series available to partner with or duel against. Deck building itself can be done automatically to get straight to the game, or more time can be taken to engage with the new monster customization that allows free allocation of skills to cards.
Any aspiring Duelist should visit the official website and pre-register for Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel, as if the campaign surpasses 500,000 users everyone will net enough Gems to unlock 10 card draws. Otherwise, Cross Duel will launch worldwide on September 6th on the App Store and Google Play.
