Frostpunk: Beyond the Ice brings the biting cold survival series to mobile

In a bid to distract us all from how cold it is getting, Com2uS has launched Frostpunk: Beyond the Ice, so we can all go well at least I am not there. Based on the critically acclaimed Frostpunk franchise, you can now enjoy failing to survive on the go. Like most city-building games you will spend your time gathering resources to expand your territory, but with a twist; the cold will kill you if you aren't careful. Assemble expedition teams and send them to battle wild animals, or visit the Weather Station to complete missions. Just be aware that there are many dangers out there, and they may not return. With the atmosphere itself your greatest foe, you might want to work with your fellow…

Nintendo announces Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete to allow you to continue your campsites

The sad reality is that most of the time when a mobile game shuts down, it is gone for good, just look at about 80% of Square Enix's catalogue. Thankfully for fans of one title, Nintendo is steeping up to soften the blow, thanks to the recently announced Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete. Those astute of you out there might have figured out this will be the follow-up for the original flavour Pocket Camp which is closing down at the end of November after seven years. A good innings, I dabbled a bit myself, and a fantastic move by Nintendo to keep it alive, in a way. Pocket Camp Complete will differ in two main ways. One, it is a one-time purchase without monetization, and two, it won&rs…

Virtual Revenge launches on November 6th, and as well as a new MSQ there will be two recruits, two Bangboos, two big gameplay modes, and expanded maps with new areas to explore. Hunt the haunts as the spooky season finally arrives in Play Together

It has taken a shocking amount of time given the frequency of Play Togethers’ updates, but finally, Halloween is making its way onto Haegin's social networking game. Spooky spectres will be about, as well as haunted fish that you won’t find in any book, and nothing is scarier than missing fish. Probably. Kaia Island has a haunting problem, so it is time to harness your inner Ghostbusters and equip your non-copyrighted Ghost Hunter Weapon. Remove these pests in a totally non-busting fashion, and you will grab yourself some Halloween Candy. If you can resist eating them, you can exchange them for Halloween costumes and furniture pieces at the Happy Halloween Shop found in the Plaz…

Exploding Kittens 2 gets into the spooky spirit with the Mystic Mayhem Pack

If there is but one truth in life, it's that if you dress up a cat in a cute or silly outfit, people will flock to it. Marmalade Game Studio is looking to weaponise this in their Halloween update with the Mystic Mayhem Pack in Exploding Kittens 2, which comes with two new Outfits to get you in the spooky mood. Take a trip over to Madame Beatrice’s House if you dare, and challenge the mystical master to a round in this frightful new location. Should you like her clothes enough, you can nab yourself a copy to wear. Those who prefer something a little more monstrous can also opt to don the Cauldron Creature Outfit. Along with these new threads and a place to do card-based battles, you c…

Batten down the hatches and brandish your decks as Fabled Game Studio announces Pirates Outlaws 2: Heritage

Batten down the hatches and brandish your decks as Fabled Game Studio announces Pirates Outlaws 2: Heritage

I have never been the biggest fan of roguelikes in the past. Hades and Binding of Isacc gave me room to soften this stance a bit, but on the whole, they are not my bag. However, give it to me in a card game, and I am interested. Throw in pirates, like Fabled Game Studios’ announced Pirates Outlaws 2: Heritage, and I am hooked. If you need more than pirates and card games then you are very hard to please, but we shall endeavour nonetheless. Pirates Outlaws 2: Heritage is a roguelike deck builder where you hit the high seas, build a deck of fantastic abilities like summoning tornados or bonking people with a sword, and then promptly die and do it all again.  When you start a run y…

News By Shaun Walton, 1 week, 1 day ago

Sky: Children of the Light is a game punctuated mostly by its lovely vibes and welcoming community. However, it's Halloween so to hell with all that, it’s time for the Days of Mischief event to return. There will be a bevvy of new spooks showing up, plus the return of some old favourites. Whilst the Spirits were ferrying a new guest to the skies, some additional stowaways snuck aboard. With these fiends causing chaos, it is down to you and your friends to help restore some order. Every week you can head to the Cackling Crab to speak to the Spirits and be given a new task to complete.  The event will take place across three weeks, and week two brings a special surprise. To show t…

Pokemon GO Halloween Part II will begin on October 28th

As you know Halloween is in full swing on Pokemon Go, and soon we will be launching into Part II of their event. Starting October 28th, there will be a raft of special Pokemon to collect, and a host of bonuses. 2X Candy on catching, more chance to grab Shiny Zorua, and a higher chance for Trainers over level 31 to get Candy XL and Nice and higher throws are just the start. Pokemon Go might not have any haunted houses, but this newest Gigantamax release is the next best thing. You guessed it, Gigantamax Gengar will be available to tackle in Six-Star Max Battles. It is a small window, lasting from October 31st to November 3rd, and there is only a small chance to catch a shiny, so you will nee…

Have your voice heard as the 2024 Pocket Gamer Awards nominations open

We all know that Halloween is coming up, as are the assorted winter holidays and New Year's, but none of them hold a candle to what else is happening soon! It’s that time of year when we all get to scream and shout about our favourite games from the past year; it is time for the 2024 Pocket Gamer Awards. Nominations have officially opened, and there are 20 categories to put your votes in for. And it is truly important that you do, as the contenders will all be decided by public vote. That’s right, even if we at Steel Media venomously disagree with your choices, there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. Even if you are incredibly wrong and don't vote for Athena Crisis. Mob…

Warframe ramps up for the release of 1999 update with launch of a playable demo

There are many reasons to look forward to December, including religious holidays, ice skating, and the occasional snow, but for me, I am looking forward to Warframe: 1999. It is now officially the next Warframe expansion, and it looks amazing. Thanks to the launch of a demo, we can all get a taste of the action. To keep the good news rolling, all you need to do to access this demo is to finish the Awakening and Vor’s Prize tutorial quests. After that, head to the main ship’s fight deck and interact with the new infested terminal. This will transport you to the street of Höllvania, and then the fun can begin. Here you will step into the shoes of the Hex’s leader, Arth…

Blue Archive celebrates its third anniversary with a heap of prizes

With the rate that Blue Archive put out updates, events, and new characters I thought it had been around for many years, but apparently, I was wrong. In fact, we are only coming up to its third birthday, a date that Nexon is celebrating with the 3-Year Anniversary Thanksgiving Event. On October 18th, the official Blue Archive YouTube channel will host a special anniversary live stream, Kivotos Live. Nothing concrete has been confirmed about what it will contain, but we know there will be live-stream gifts, so it could be worth checking out just for that. Speaking of presents, how would you like to get your hands on 1,000 Pyroxene for practically nothing? Simply pre-register for the 3rd ann…

Halloween descends on Gielnoir as RuneScape embraces the spooky spirit

Halloween descends on Gielnoir as RuneScape embraces the spooky spirit

We only have a short amount of time with Halloween before Christmas comes and ruins our shopping trips for an awful length of time, so let's make the most of it and look at anything vaguely ghoulish. To this end, RuneScape has begun its Harvest Hollow Halloween Event, and yes it took me three times to say that properly. Until November 4th you can take part in three weeks of frightful fun, including the titular Harvest Hollow. This dark place is stuffed full of pumpkins, candles, campfires, and, for some reason, tentacles. To tackle this unusual obstacle and more, you will team up with one of the Five Horsemen, of the imaginatively named Horsemen clan. In the Field of Screams event, it will…

Honkai: Star Rail is set to return to Penacony in Version 2.6 later this month

I don’t want to suggest that Honkai: Star Rail is already running out of ideas, but we are only at Version 2.6 and we are already returning to another previous location. The last few story updates involved the return to the Xianzhou fleet, and now we are set to revisit Penacony in Annals of Pinecany’s Mappou Age, releasing October 23rd. In Penacony we shall be visiting Paperfold University as it prepares for its newest semester. The campus is abuzz as clubs recruit new members and music fills the air. To celebrate, the university is hosting an exclusive academic seminar. Due to the Astral Express Crew’s tendency to make a mark on every place they meet, they have been invit…

The perfect combination of idols and fish comes to Play Together

The perfect combination of idols and fish comes to Play Together

Things have taken a bit of a weird turn in Play Together, as idol fever has infected Haegin's social networking games. A little late to be fair, it feels like that whole genre has simmered down a bit, but nonetheless, things are about to get a lot more show business. Project Aika has kicked off on Kaia Island, with the aim of finding the land's top idol stars. It will be your job to test contestants to see if they have the vocals, dance moves, and all the other ingredients that add up to a K-pop artist.  As you go through these missions you will be able to unlock the Dance Floor, a mobile stage that you just might perform on yourself, if you are lucky. You will also start to earn Aika…

Square Enix drops pre-registration for Ember Storia for iOS and Android in Japan

Normally when we mention Square Enix in the mobile sphere it is because they have killed yet another of their games - I have seriously lost count at this point. However, we are going in the opposite direction this time, as Square Enix has announced pre-registrations for Ember Storia. The story is set in the land of Rengoku, which translates as Purgatory. Humans have brought destruction wherever they go, resulting in a ruined world where demons run rampant. Engineers managed to create giant ships to revive lost souls and harvest resources to survive, and you will be stepping up to helm the Anima Arca. Not only is this hulking great ship your base, but it is also your home, and you can treat…
