I don’t know if many people will remember, but back in the early 2000s, or thereabouts, there was a little anime series on our screens called Medabots. It was an incredibly fun show about battling robots, and a franchise that sadly didn’t kick off much in the West. In Japan, it is another story, and soon they will welcome the latest game entry on February 10th; Medabots Survivors.
As spotted by the folks over at Gematsu, Medabots Survivors, or Medarot as it is known over there, will be what you expect of the name really. You will take control of fan-favourite and new Medabots and will face hoards of enemies as you try to survive. There will be a choice of over 30 characters at launch, each with its own special skills.
Medabots Survivors will be a melting pot of the series' best animators, with the protagonist being designed by Medabots S lead illustrator Tyuga. The Chang’e-flavoured Kouha Senjo by Mine Yoshizaki will also make an appearance, as will K-SUWABEs’ dark knight-themed Shadow Armor.
Developed by Medabot masters Imagineer, this will be the first survival action game in the storied series, but then again, the robotic battlers never did stick to one genre. There has been a slew of entries released over in Japan, and whilst only 3 - 5 depending on how you count - made their way to the West, they each had their own special playstyle.
Medabots: Metabee and Rokusho are a pair of GBA games that functioned in a turn-based manner, whereas Medabots AX: Metabee and Rokusho, again a pair, were platform battlers. Medabots: Infinity however will be a full-on 3D role-playing game where you control the Medabots and beat up other robotic foes. It was a blast.
We have no word that Medabots Survivors is going to be released outside Japan, but I sure hope so. It is a series I do miss. Along with Monster Rancher, hint hint developers. If you want to paw at the storefront pages and dream about what could be, here are the Google Play and App Store links.
