The first mobile game developed by one-woman indie studio Lilycore Games releases in a few short days, the oft-dubbed superfast lesbian devil fighter Bossgame: The Final Boss is my Heart.

Romance is very much at the centre of this game, with the two main characters already being in a committed relationship, which is an interesting take as most games focus on the build-up. Sword priestess Sophie and fire-mage Anna are partners that live in the devil-infested Mammon City, where the best way to make money is to hunt said devils.

The graphic style pays homage to the overlord of indie games, Undertale, with the gameplay also relying on the player having quick reflexes as the combat is a very fast-paced affair, having to control both of the characters through the fight. There are no mooks or random enemies to contend with, with the whole game instead being a boss gauntlet, which sounds like an interesting way to keep the combat fresh.

Outside of combat, there is a particularly interesting social aspect to the game. Whilst players would expect the ability to converse with allies or other friendly NPCs, Bossgame offers the chance to also send texts to established enemies. Whilst this may or may not offer a big change to the story, it is a very amusing thought to make small talk with an individual right before you throw a fireball in their face.

When discussing her new game, Lullycore Games founder Lily Valeen said “I’ve always loved RPGs, and I wanted to make a game with that kind of story and character writing, and then I shrank it by making only boss battles, which are often the coolest part of those games anyway!"

Bossgame: The Final Boss is My Heart will be released on 20th October for both Android and iOS.
