Headup Games and Goody Gameworks have announced a mobile port for the side-scrolling city-smashing masterpiece Gigapocalypse. The game gives players the opportunity to control a giant monster and utterly demolish numerous cities with a variety of devastating skills, which is surely reason enough to give it a go.
There is not much better than a deep game with an interesting story and engaging mechanics, and a lot of fun hours can be spent on them, however, this is nothing that brings wonderful childish glee than a game whose sole purpose is just to utterly mess things up. Games like Gigapocalypse are wonderfully simple ways to get endless amusement.
Taking inspiration from the Kaiju genre, or big monster wrecks the place films like Gozilla and King Kong, as well the ageless classic that was Rampage, Gigapocalypse places the player in the rather big shoes of a variety of monsters, dubbed Gigas, with the sole aim of destroying a city.
Running with a retro side-scrolling style, each Giga has a host of different abilities it can use to cause maximum damage, which depletes a resource called Rage. This replenishes at a fairly decent rate to keep the mayhem flowing. Of course, the tiny inhabitants of this world won't just let the Giga rampage, they will fight back and will eventually beat the monster, at least in the beginning.
After each run, the Giga will earn mutation points, which can then be used to unlock a variety of updates. These include new mutations, new skills, different skins and even five minions that will accompany the carnage because giant monsters need friends too. When not out pulverising the town, players can engage with their Giga in Tamagotchi-like minigames, or even decorate the Giga's home, which is delightfully ironic.
Gigapocalypse is available to download now from the App Store and Google Play.
