EA and Capital Games have announced the launch date for their upcoming turn-based RPG The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth, dropping May 10th for Android and iOS. We also get a trailer full of interesting looks at the in-progress development.
To kick off, the trailer opens with its warning that “not all images appear in-game”, so we can take all this with a pinch of salt as some of it will change. It also states that the game has loot boxes, or “random items” as they so sweetly try to camouflage it, so presumably you get characters from the good old gacha system, EA style.
From the menu we can see a bit of what the game has in store; an arena which will presumably be PvP which will be fun, some magical door for Adventures which we don’t have much on, and then the Guilds system. Why didn’t they call them Fellowships? Who knows, but the story looks more interesting.
We look like we can go through a Light and Shadow campaign, which feels a lot like the system that Marvel Strike Force has where you play as the heroes and villains separately. It is an interesting way to play, but unfortunately, it means you need to fully raise two separate teams. The characters also seem to follow the Strike Team system, you can get general units or the ones who all know and love like Frodo, and they all have their own tags. For example, Eothain has the Rohan and Human tags, so presumably, we will have buffs for factions.
In the coming weeks, we will no doubt receive more news because of the early release date, so keep an eye out for them. In the meantime, pre-register for The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth now on the official website.
