One of the biggest mobile gaming losses we faced was when Square Enix closed down Kingdom Hearts Union X, or Dark Road, however, now we have a chance to fill that hole, as Square has released a whole dump of announcements for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts Missing Link.

The new trailer gives us quite a big look into this new world, with a few clips showing us how the GPS action will work. Something interesting to note is the caption that says “Travel the world without stepping outside”, so even though you need location services turned on to play, you might still be able to enjoy a lot of content from your couch.

Gameplay-wise, there seems to be the usual Kingdom Hearts fare, with what looks like a cross between Chain of Memories and Dream Drop Distance. You load up your kit with Disney characters to summon and deal damage, the power of light and friendship and whatnot. Luckily, we won’t have to wait long for more information, as a Closed Beta Test will kick off on November 29th and run untill December 8th.

There are a few things to note first before you apply. The big kicker is the beta is only available for iOS at the moment. An Android test will follow in January 2024, but can still be applied for now. Also, tablets are excluded from the test, you will need a decent phone to run it on.

Speaking of exclusion, this test is only available in two countries right now; the United Kingdom and Australia. If you live anywhere else, though, you can still semi-get involved in the process, as users can stream their gameplay and share clips. It isn’t an ideal compromise, but at least you get to see the gameplay. Finally, after the test, your player data is gone, so no starting the proper game with an OP character.

Kingdom Hearts Missing Link will be available for Android and iOS at some point in 2024. If you want to get involved in the beta then sign up through the website, where recruitment is open until November 19th.
