Mobile wielders will soon be able to add a gem to their library of games, as Astragon Entertainment and Mi'pu'mi Game have announced they are bringing hit turn-based RPG Howl to our handsets. After racking up near-universal acclaim on console and PC, March will see its legend spread to a new set of fans.
Howl is a folktale set in medieval times, in a world beset by the dreaded howling plague, which causes all who hear it to transform into vicious beasts determined to munch anyone they see. Players will be thrust into the shoes of a deaf prophetess who has set out into this unwelcoming world to find a cure to the plague, and also locate her lost brother.
The gameplay here is pretty in-depth and fascinating. You are able to plan six moves in advance, with each enemy getting the same number of moves that the heroine makes. However, we are armed with the knowledge of how the beasts move, so each round consists of moving into a position to dispatch the encroaching wolves, whilst remaining safe.
It isn’t just our heroine that needs protecting though, as there are a host of villagers spread across the game's sixty levels that would love a helping hand. Unlike you, these characters are susceptible to the howling plague and are well at risk of being transformed. Players will need to bear these variables in mind to either save them, or risk adding them to the legion of foes you face.
One big aspect that sets Howl apart from its brethren is its rather distinctive aesthetics. The living ink, as it is dubbed, is a dynamic watercolour art style that lends the game a very striking style, managing to be both captivating and quite creepy at the same time. Worth considering for that alone.
Howl will be available to download from the App Store and Google Play on March 21st for $3.99.
