Version 5.0 of Genshin Impact is landing on August 28th, and HoYoverse has released a whole host of reveals that will make the next week or so hell. Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn will release three new characters, an interesting story based on the six tribes of Natlan, and the ability to become a dragon.
Let’s kick off with the most interesting mechanic; exploration. By indwelling various Saurians, the dragons of Natlan, you can transform into them and use their abilities to master the landscape. The Tepetlisaurus are experts at tunnelling underground and climbing cliffs, whereas the Yumkasaurus can reach great heights by slingshotting themselves in a chosen direction. Finally, the Koholasaurus can glide across the water and liquid Phlogiston, an incredibly interesting take on getting around.
Pretty fittingly for a land that hosts dragons is the Pyro land, Natlan is known as the Nation of War and places a lot of focus on its warriors. At the Stadium of the Sacred Flames, Champions of each tribe are chosen through a tournament. It is here where the main story will unfold, provided you are Adventure Rank 28 and have finished Liyue’s Archon Quests.
As the story unfolds, you will meet three strong new recruits. Kachina is a four-star Geo Polearm wielder who can summon Turbo Twirly to climb walls and cliffs and deal an AoE ground pound. You will get her for free after Act 1, and she will be pretty helpful for exploring if you don’t want to chase Saurians.
Stepping up to the five stars, Kinich is a Claymore wielder of the Dendro element and comes equipped with a grappling hook to easily reach new heights, or link to enemies to unleash Loop Shoots. He is also aided by his pet dragon, Ajaw, who will cook people for you. Finally, Mualani is a Hyrdro Catalyst user who can ride her Sharky Surfboard on land or water, inflicting a DOT debuff on anyone she hits.
You can pick up Mualani and Kachina in the first phase of 5.0’s Event Wish, along with Kaedehara Kazuha. In part two you can grab Kinich and Raiden Shogun. If you want to learn more about these three new heroes you can undertake the Tribal Chronicles, a new three-act quest that replaces the previous Story Quests.
