I am having something of an existential crisis hearing the news that Marvel Contest of Champions is celebrating its 10-year Anniversary. To mark this shocking milestone, Kabam is kicking off months of festivities, starting with the release of two new champions.
The Maestro has returned and to celebrate has ordered four months of games, ushering in the third Saga, called the Glorious Games. Each month of this saga will be centred around a different area of games.
September starts proceedings with the Circus Maximus, which each month builds up to the crescendo of December’s Grand Banquet, where obviously nothing can go wrong. We can look forward to a Champion chase, surprise Champion reworks, and a host of Events and Quests all backed by a classical antiquity aesthetic.
Let’s turn to the new Champions so we can see who we are kicking butt with this month. On September 12th you will be able to become the head of the Maggia crime syndicate as Count Luchino Nefaria arrives on the scene. He will wade into battle with a permanent immunity to Power Steel and Bleed effects, throwing a wrench in a bunch of characters' move sets.
When his opponent's receivers Power or buffs their Max Health, they will rack up stacks of energy Build Up Debuffs. This is vital for the Count, as his special attacks will use these resources to do additional effects. It will take a minute to learn, but he will be a powerful combatant in the right hands.
If OP passives don't do it for you, maybe wait till September 26th and try out Shathra, wasp goddess and winner of the 2024 Summoner’s Choice. Her kit revolves around building up Astral Eggs through her Light, Medium, and first Special Attack, and then hatching them into Astral Wasps with her other Special Attacks.
When you have all those wasps buzzing around you can be a responsible and loving mother, by sacrificing them for effects. Ah, the joys of parenthood. You can use them to Power Steal from your foe and ramp up your Special Attack 2 power. Squishing the bugs will also result in Vulnerability Passives, which will increase the damage more. Whichever Champion you pick, they both sound fantastically good.
