If you have been aching for a Warframe hit before the monumental 1999 update later this year, you will be well served. Hot off the presses from the Tokyo Game Show, Digital Extremes has lifted the lid on Koumei & the Five Fates, showcasing its new character and mode ahead of the October 2nd release.

Waframe has been out for a good while now, and we have all gotten reasonably good at it, so what can you do if you want to mix things up a bit? Well, you could try out the 58th Warframe, Koumei. Dubbed the dice-maiden, here it is built upon RNG, where the luck of the dice rolls will determine your fate.

Each time you use an ability, three dice will roll, with triple sixes adding extra bonuses to the case. Kumihima will weave threads around, with enemies touching it suffering a random Elemental Status Effect. Or, every single effect on a perfect roll. Omikuji will glimpse the future and grant you a buff if you take action to make that premonition come true. Three Sixes will net you that buff for nothing, however.

Omamori will surround you with charms, each offering a chance to heal instead of damage you on an enemy attack. You will also be invulnerable for the duration of the Charms should you roll all sixes. Finally, Bunraku will suspend enemies in front of you on marionette strings and impair a number of  Status Effects depending on your dice roll. All sixes will make this ability affect enemies behind you too.

She sounds insane, frankly, so you will want her. To get her crafting parts, and those of her signature weapons - a gunbrella called Higasa, and a Naginata named Amanat - you have to beat the new Shrine Defense missions. Here you will repel Infested invaders as you gather shrine offerings until the new mini-boss pops up; the Infested Oni. To unlock this mode, you need to complete Saya’s Vigil and Once Awake.

As previously announced, the existing Warframe Caliban has received extensive reworks to his kit and will be offered to all players for free if you log in between October 2nd and 16th. Also coming in this update is the ability to freely trade items with Cross-Platform Trading.

Finally, as if to overshadow their own update, Digital Extremes announced the release of a teaser demo for Warframe: 1999. From October 16th you can hop on Arthurs’ Atomicyle and explore Hovlania, taking on an Exterminate mission about the Scaldra and earning the Protokol Longsword Skin. To unlock this you must complete Awakening and Vor’s Prize first.

Warframe is available to download from the App Store now.
