Back in the far-off land of 2019, developers Dead Mage - fantastic name - released their roguelike action RPG on PC and console. It racked up some good reviews and is now making its way to mobile, complete with a special launch price.
In Children of Morta, you will join the Bergson clan as they strive to save the land of Rea from the Corruption. There are seven characters to pick between, each with their own suite of abilities, fighting style, and personality to journey with. You will bond with these characters, and then watch them die again and again.
One of the worst things about having multiple playable protagonists is the possibility that you might have to balance the chance of developing a favourite and leaving the less-played characters in the dust. Well, Children of Morta leaves no man behind, as the whole family will improve their skills and gear with every single run. It is a feature that I am completely behind.
This mobile version is the Complete Edition, comprised of everything currently released on PC and console. This includes both the Ancient Spirits and Paws and Claws DLCs. Online coop capability will also be added in a post-launch update, giving everyone time to practise before embarrassing themselves with friends. Or maybe that will just be me, roguelikes are not my forte.
During the porting process, multiple changes have been made to develop the best mobile experience. Cloud saves will allow you to share progress even between Android and iOS versions, and you can link with an MFi controller for precision movement. There is also a revamped interface, as well as further optimisations for the iPhone 15 family.
Children of Morta is available to purchase from the App Store and Google Play for $9.99, with a 30% launch discount until October 15th, bringing it down to $6.99.
