Normally when we mention Square Enix in the mobile sphere it is because they have killed yet another of their games - I have seriously lost count at this point. However, we are going in the opposite direction this time, as Square Enix has announced pre-registrations for Ember Storia.

The story is set in the land of Rengoku, which translates as Purgatory. Humans have brought destruction wherever they go, resulting in a ruined world where demons run rampant. Engineers managed to create giant ships to revive lost souls and harvest resources to survive, and you will be stepping up to helm the Anima Arca.

Not only is this hulking great ship your base, but it is also your home, and you can treat it as such with upgrades. Strengthen your base by adding new buildings, research tech, training, and producing resources. You can even customise the layout to make it the floating house you always dreamed of.

Despite the creature comforts, you will have to leave your fortress at some points to explore the ruined lands, so you will need help. Your army will be composed of Embers, warriors summoned from hell to do their master's bidding. Earning contracts with these beings will be vital to survive in Purgatory.

Whilst we don’t have a ton of solid data, we do have a list of people involved in the making, and it is a pretty impressive roster. The Main Character Designer is Yusuke Kozaki, the mind behind Fire Emblem Awakening, and Pokemon Go. The second is surprising seeing as Go doesn’t have that many new characters but hey, big name.

The music will come from the composer behind Final Fantasy XIII, Masashi Hamauzu, but let’s not hold that against them. The last to be confirmed so far is Main Scenario writer Benny Matsyyama, with SEGA Frontier Remaster (Hughs Edition) and Imperial Saga under their belt.

Ember Storia is available to pre-order on the App Store and Google Play in Japan exclusively for now, so we have two wishes. One: it gets released worldwide and two: Square Enix doesn’t shut it down before it has a chance to.
