I want to get this across very clearly; patience is not one of my virtues. When something interests me I can’t sit still. I have been chomping at the bit to play Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago since I first heard about it, it has been a long time coming to mobile, and finally, it is within reach.
It has been out on Steam since May 2024, but computers really aren’t the platform for a game like this. You ideally want a computer for something like an MMORPG, but Yolk Heroes is a Tamagotchi-inspired affair with idle aspects. In other words, a game you want in your pocket so you can easily visit your new pet.
You take on the role of your realm’s Guardian Spirit, a job you aren’t doing stellar at seeing that your world is in grave danger. The Fairy Queen tasks you with raising a variety of elf heroes to do battle with the evil Forg Lord, who is encroaching on your lands with each passing day.
Each elf begins as an egg, don’t question it, and you will need to care for them and raise them into mighty heroes. This comes in the form of feeding, bathing, entertaining, and putting them through gruelling exercises to bolster their strength, dexterity and intelligence like any good parent does.
When your elves come of age they can be sent out on quests as one of nine classes, including Samurai, Paladin, and Mage. When completing these you will unlock new equipment, experience points, and gold. You can even queue up to five tasks for your friends to tackle when you are off doing boring, real-life duties.
Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago is available to pre-register from the App Store and Google Play now, with a release date of November 28th. Ten long, arduous days away at time of posting, not that I am clock-watching or anything.
