I have been writing here for a while now and there have been some good announcements, but none of them mean anything anymore after today! As proclaimed by our lord and saviour, Sir Naoki Yoshida, aka Yoshi-P, Final Fantasy XIV is coming to mobile, so everyone clear your diary and make space on your phones.
It has been eleven years since he took the helm of a struggling MMORPG and turned it into a global juggernaut, recently finishing its first story arc. Soon, FFXIV Mobile will be joining the franchise, developed by Lightspeed Studios, and will aim to recreate the story, battles, and overall epicness of the original.
As I write this I have FFXIV on in the background, and it must be said that the trailer brings back so many amazing memories. Watch and you will see everything that made A Realm Reborn a hit; the three main cities, the myriad of races, and combat with primals. You will also notice a certain someone repeating the oft-used phrase, “pray return to the waking sands”, six words that reverberate with all Warriors of Light.
Upon launch, there will be a total of nine classes to pick from, a bit shy of the 21, or 22 strong choices in the main game, depending on how you look at Blue Mage. Luckily though, we will have the crafting and gathering jobs, very important in MMORPGs. What’s even better, is that there are minigames galore.
The Gold Saucer will be in full swing, complete with its challenges, mini-games such as the test your strength machine, and most importantly, Triple Triad. This is all excellent news, but the terrible news is I don’t speak Chinese. This sucks because FFXIV Mobile will get its first demo in China in the form of playtests, followed by a confirmed global release.
If you want to keep up to date with these developments, I will be devouring every single piece of content and reporting it back, or, check out the official website.
