It is a very sad fact that recently when we hear about finances in the video game world, it is usually dire news. Studios closing, games failing, and so on. Thankfully, however, we had a giant shot in the arm during the PUBG Mobile Global Championship, thanks to James Yang.
If you don’t know the name, James Yang is the Senior Director of Global Esports over at Level Infinite. During the PMGC, he delivered a speech about the key initiatives for the 2025 PUBG Mobile Esports circuit. Here are the headlines; more routes for amateur players to go pro, and a huge ten-million-dollar investment in the sector.
Next year, PUBG Mobile will have players at all levels competing in over 20 regional tournaments across the world. Anyone skilled enough can secure a spot in events such as the PUBG Mobile World Cup and have a chance to take home some cash for indulging their hobby—the dream.
Spring 2025 will see the Global Open returning, hosted in Uzbekistan. If you manage to achieve a top 500 rank in Ultimate Royale you can skip the first round of the qualifiers, bringing you a step closer to glory. The tournament will take place from March to April.
Following this, the 2025 World Cup will join the Esports World Cup in Riyadh next summer. Finally, the Global Championships will see Thailand hosting the best teams from across the world. This is always a hard-fought contest, and thanks to this announced expansion in PUBG esports, anyone could earn their way into the roster.
As part of this drive, there will also be a slew of female-focused events, incentives, and support for third-party tournaments. Investments have also been announced in the Esports Partnership Program, starting with increased funding for the Esports Creation Program. Some very positive moves across the board, and some excellent news for the future of esports.
PUBG Mobile is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
