Relive the Raccoon City outbreak on the go as Resident Evil 2 launches on Apple devices

In all of gaming across every generation, one of my favourite protagonists has always been Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil. The fanboying really started on the Gamecube version of Resident Evil 4 where his bravery and terrible puns enamoured me. iPhone users can now experience the origin of this hero with the release of Resident Evil 2.

The first Resident Evil was undoubtedly a phenomenon, but I think the sequel definitely improved in most areas. You had the iconic Raccoon City to explore and two distinct paths with protagonists Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. It was remade back in 2019, and now Apple wielders can take the juiced-up zombie slaughter on the go.

Of course, there are a few restrictions, beyond the obvious operating system stuff. You need to have either one of the iPhone 15 Pro models, any iPhone 16, or an iPad with a M-series chip. I believe this is the 2021 5th Generation model and onwards.

On the positive side, however, you will have the opportunity to try before you buy with a portion of the story available for free. I say this every time, and I won’t stop, but this fantastic feature should be included in a ton more games. Developers should believe in their games more! Anyway.

It also comes with Universal Purchase, meaning spend once and you have it on all of your Apple devices forever. Couple this with cross-progression, and your rampage across Raccoon City has never been more accessible. Especially if you throw in the port's enhanced features such as autofiring. Simply place the crosshair on the enemy, and watch the bullets fly.

Resident Evil 2 is now available to download from the App Store. After the free trial, it will cost you $9.99, which is a bloody good deal that will only be around until January 8th.
