When Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket launched I, like everyone, was instantly enamoured, but then everything sort of just, stopped. Between the zero trading and the two meta decks EVERYONE played, it felt like you just opened two packs of dupes a day. Soon though, The Pokemon Company is looking to change that.
Eventual monotony aside, it appears that Pocket was a massive success, stacking up 60 million downloads since launching at the end of October. It was also nominated for Best Mobile Game at The Game Awards, which surely was just Pikachu nepotism. At this point, you could slack Pokemon on anything and it would sell like hotcakes.
All this aside, it seems that the tides might change shortly, with the announcement of the first new expansion. Dubbed Mythical Island, you can collect 80 new cards, including Celebi and that little pink blob that launch a thousand truck theories; Mew. The trailer below shows off some of the cards, and it has to be said, we have a few beasts coming.
Let's start with Aeordactyl EX. It comes with 140 HP and has an 80 power attack for two energy, but where it will be a game changer if it's Ability. Primeva Law prevents your opponent from playing any Pokemon from their hand to evolve their Active Pokemon. It puts a bit of pressure on your rival when they can’t bulk up and stall when they stack the bench.
Of course, we can’t overlook the star of the pack; Mew EX. With 130 HP and a 20 power one energy attack, it doesn’t look too intimidating but stick three energy on, and watch out. Genome Hacking lets you choose one of your opponent's Active Pokemon attacks and then use it. If this enables you to avoid the effects, such as shedding Energy, it will be insane.
Mythical Island packs will drop on December 17th, so make sure you download Pokemon Trading Card Pocket from the App Store and Google Play now and start saving those Hourglasses.
