XD Games has announced the impending arrival of Torchlight: Infitite's most dynamic season to date, set to launch on January 10th. Dubbed Arcana, it will bring us a fascinating hero to try out, Tarot Card-based mechanics, and the opportunity to face down a hoard of foes with your friends.
Let’s start with the new hero; Iris, the Vigilant Breeze. In addition to having a beautiful name, Iris brings an interesting gameplay mechanic to battles. She merges with Spirit Magi to fire out obliterating elemental abilities, or be more supportive and heal. Having access to both choices will hopefully increase everyone's enjoyment.
Appropriately, we will also get two new Spirit Magi arriving. The Rock Magus is a physical damage brute, packing whirlwind-like abilities that give access to massive AoE attacks. The Erosion Magus is an explosive master, focusing on high-damage blasts, and can counter-attack upon taking damage.
For further growth opportunities, the Destiny mechanic is revolutionising Pactspirts. You can install Fates and Kismets on talent nodes for enhancements. These range from basic attribute boosts and the like to powerful new features like Dual Kismets, opening up extra build opportunities. Legendary Gear has also had a glow-up, with some currents such as Lone Walker’s Boots getting a tweak, to debut equipment to hunt down.
Now the characters are out of the way, let’s look closer at the Arcana season. The Wheel of Destiny will be introduced, and tarot cards will be applied to the Netherrealm stages. These unfair challenges such as The Hermit adding assassins, or The Chariot giving you speedy enemies to deftly avoid.
Complete these, and you will unlock the Tarot Secret Path. This is a board game-like adventure strew with treasure chests, traps, and mind-bending strategic opportunities. By utilising Notes of Arcana you can influence the game, with effects such as skipping traps, upgrading treasure rewards, and locating bountiful chests.
Finally, grab your friends to tackle new Co-Op challenges such as the City Defense event. Here you must defend an Energy Crustal through an onslaught of waves, with legendary Pactspirits chest waiting for the victors. There is also the return of Endgame content such as Supreme Showdown and Boss Conquest.
