Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links celebrates eight years of service with a landslide of shiny cards

I write this from a place of grand conflict; I enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links very much, however, this eighth-anniversary celebration has an unforgivable lack of Blue-Eyed White Dragons. Competitively they have dropped off, but the meta does not compete against nostalgic love for this cataclysmic monster. You know, unless you're trying to use it in a duel, then you're screwed.

Dragon rant aside, although it’ll probably come up again later, Konami will commence its eighth year of Duel Links starting January 12th. That is an incredibly long time in mobile circles, and it speaks volumes that it is still as fun to play now as it has ever been. The speed duel format really suits handheld devices.

The biggest thing you can grab this year is a Chronicle Card Ticket. This will allow you to obtain, surprisingly, a Chronicle Card variant from a pool of the anime series’ protagonists Ace Monsters. Specifically, you can pick between Dark Magician, Elemental HERO Neos, Stardust Dragon, Number 39: Utopia, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, Decode Talker, Sevens Road Magician, or Galactica Oblivion. Surely Blue Eyes should be included, Kaiba was the true protagonist.

You can also pick up Ultra Prismatic versions of Rainbow Neos for Speed Duel, cause even Jaiden gets more love than Kaiba this year, and a Prismatic version of Pot of Greed. In addition, logging in during this period will net you 1,000 Gems, 8th-anniversary accessories, and more.

But wait, there's another sequence of log-in bonuses. Across ten days popping up will shower you with a host of riches. You will be able to get a Dream SR Ticket (Rush), UR/SR Ticket (Speed) (Glossy), Surface Processing: Aurora, and more ways to make your deck unfathomably shiny. Ten days of nothing but shiny Blue-Eyed White Dragons. I don’t care that some of the Tickets don’t have him as an option, I will find a way.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
