Tencent has been in the news an awful lot lately, with those legal troubles in the US, rumblings of a deal involving Ubisoft, and the FFXIV Mobile development. That last one isn't that recent, but I wanted to mention it anyway. In happier more immediate news though, the PUBG Mobile Global Open is back!

Whilst this won’t affect those of us who try to cower our way through battle royales, folk out there who can actually get eliminations should be very excited. Not only can you strut your stuff on a global stage, but the PMGO has a very mouth-watering $500,000 prize pool.

You will need to consult your calendar and banish any fear of flying, as the Main Event will take place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on April 12th and 13th. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though, regulations have only just opened. Those intrigued virtual soldiers have until February 9th to pop your name down.

Luckily, the Open Qualifiers are only available for amateurs, so everyone has a fair shout of success. Those in the 2024 and 2025 regional leagues are closed out to foster grassroots esports. Each team needs four players, and there are five servers to choose from so I don’t want to hear any whining about lag or ping. If one of your team was from the Ultimate 500 in seasons 20 and 21, you automatically qualify for Round Two.

The Open Qualifiers will take place between February 12th and March 2nd across three rounds. Placing in the top 12 of your region gets you a ticket to the PMGO Prelims alongside those who place 2nd to 5th in the 2024 PMGO Uzbekistan Offline Qualifiers. Then it's a big brawl for the seven qualifying spots for the Main Event in April.

PUBG Mobile is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
