Marvel Snap developer's Second Dinner announces a parting of ways with publishers Nuverse

This month I gained a phenomenal level of respect for Second Dinner, developer of Marvel Snap. Due to publisher Nuverse being affected by that ban in the US, Snap was taken offline for a bit. Now, to ensure that doesn’t happen again, Second Dinner has announced they are splitting with Nuverse and publishing with Skystone Games instead.

We are going to keep the politics out of it as we recap, but as I have often theorised; TikTok is the root of all evil and suffering in the modern world. Earlier this month the US banned TikTok, following threats against ByteDance, the fellows behind the social media app. Unfortunately, this ban hit everything else owned by ByteDance, which included Nuverse and as such, Marvel Snap.

Throughout that whole blackout ordeal, Second Dinner where incredibly classy. There were regular updates on their TwiX channel, and when the US ban was lifted, they put their money where their mouth was with some very generous gift packages. Not just for the US player's mind, but for global gamers too.

Then Second Dinner pulled a pretty ballsy and admirable move and the 21st; announced that they were looking to bring features in-house and split from Nuverse so it didn’t happen again, and I love the transparency on that. They followed through with that, and just over a week lately, they revealed a move to Skystone Games.

I could praise Second Dinner for hours. Leaving a company with as much clout as ByteDance was a big decision, but they did it for the fans, and that is just top work. It does raise the question if this is just a sign of things to come from developers. Second Dinner isn’t the only one who was affected by this ban, so we might see an exodus of developers coming soon.

Marvel Snap is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
