Cute platformer Reed makes the jump from Android to iOS on March 8th
After releasing last year on Android, Reed is bringing its cat-like character and challenging platforming to the App Store next month. As an agile creation of a powerful supercomputer, your running, jumping, and trap dodging in Reed is your attempt to save your creator and the world by collecting its scattered cubes. Giving you only a double jump, Reed pits you against fifty gauntlets of spikes, saws, enemies, and other hazards, as well as secret levels to discover and tricky achievements to collect. Published by Crescent Moon Games, Reed will be $1.99 when it releases on iPad and iPhone and currently can be preordered on the App Store. In the meantime, you can also find the game on Goog…
Ayo: A Rain Tale is a platformer adventure across sub-saharan Africa, for iOS and Android
Platformers is a genre that has had its fair share of engaging and varied releases on mobile, from Leo’s Fortune to ports such as Inside. Ayo: A Rain Tale is another entry to comsider, bringing a narrative-driven design and a unique cultural perpsective to iOS and Android. As the titular Ayo, you must endure a daily journey through the harsh landscapes of sub-saharan Africa to bring clean water back to your village, a journey that pits Ayo against increasingly deadly hazards as the game progresses. From sandstorms to dangerous wildlife, your path is fraught with peril, and puzzle platforming challenges. Sun and sand may be early threats, but soon stages become complicated, ta…
Chain Breaker is an auto-runner / platformer / puzzler hybrid, and this is what it looks like
Chain Breaker is from indie developer Lemonauts. It's a game all about running through levels, and cutting chains and smashing platforms to create safe paths through said levels. While you're doing that you'll collect coins and even transform into a flaming flying ball of death too. Neat. Fancy giving the launch video a peek? Sure you do! The game's out now for iPhone and iPad, it's 99c / 69p, you can find it on the link below. [App Store link]…
Hands-on with Lion Pig, where the hero is inexplicably a lion and a pig, and why that's okay
Leaving aside the biology of how a pig and a lion might meet, fall in love, and create this curious cross-breed, Lion Pig is a really well made platformer. Its visuals remind me of Master System classics, the animations of the lead character are excellent, and everything is reminiscent of a straightforward but high quality DOS platformer. Take a look. The game's out now if you fancy getting it yourself. [App Store link]…

Skullduggery! will ask you to use your head from October 9th
ClutchPlay Games' new platformer has you rolling a skull around multiple lands across various times, taking on the afterlife with a combination of action puzzle solving and headshots, grabbing treasures, and trying to return home alive. Well... still dead, but less dead than you might be. That bit's a tad confusing. Best just watch the trailer for Skullduggery!, and see if you fancy checking it out when it comes to the iOS App Store on October 9th.…
Genre Busters: top 5 hardcore platformers on iOS
The platforming genre is almost as old as gaming itself, and you aren't a truly “hardcore” gamer until you've bested a fiendishly tough test of jumping. Being 1337 gamers ourselves, James and I have our own personal favourites when it comes to platforming on mobile, and in the below video you'll see the best, most punishing, totally gruelling platformers to ever grace a touchscreen. Too busy jumpin' to watch the full hour? No problem, here are the links to jump to the content you want to see. 1. Kid Tripp2. League of Evil 33. Rayman Fiesta Run4. Mikey Hooks5. Super Crate Box…
Hands-on with Pentumble, the fast-paced platformer that sucks (but doesn't suck)
Pentumble has you rolling around environments, sticking to walls, hanging upside down off of platforms, zipping around cogs, leaping over hazards, and so on. It's quick, it's tricky, and the controls are spot on. Here's me rocking through some early parts of the game for your viewing pleasure.…
Pyro Jump Review
It's hard not to be instantly attracted to Pyro Jump's premise. The story of a small flame that has fallen in love with an origami princess is an unusual romantic tale, one that can only end in tragedy. But, while Pinpin Team's pinpoint-platformer is endearing, it struggles to live up to its promise. You control all of Pyro Jump's action with a single tap. Touching the screen launches the little flame into the air, propelling him outwards from his current position. Holding the screen…
Watch The Video ReviewRetro platformer Super Obstacle Boy leaps onto iPhone and iPad
It doesn't matter if you were born in the '80s or the naughties, Super Obstacle Boy's pixel-art aesthetic will prove instantly familiar. This retro platformer's old-school ethos is not limited to its appearance, though. Instead of a nice, safe tutorial and a few levels of hand-holding, players will be treated to 128 punishing levels filled with spikes, pits, and a host of other blocky dangers. The goal is simple – don't die, reach the end of the stage, and eventually claim back Rescue Girl who has been captured by Dr. Negative. If you jump over to the App Store now you can grab Super Obstacle Boy for just £1.99 / $2.99. However, if you download it and can't get past the…
