Hands-on with Angry Birds Fight!, the match-3 birdie brawler
So Angry Birds Fight! is a match-3 puzzler with RPG elements, and I'm not massively impressed with what I've played so far of the soft-launched version currently available in Thailand. It's not a bad game at all, though the audio isn't nearly up to the franchise's usual high quality, it's just that it's in a genre that's kind of played out at this point, and a match-3 would have to do something really interesting to grab my attention these days. Maybe you'll like the look of it? Find out by clicking play on the video below. [App Store link]…
Hands-on with Angry Birds Stella POP!, the new bubble popper from Rovio
There's no two ways about it, Angry Birds Stella POP! plays a heck of a lot like Bubble Witch Saga and Puzzle Bobble. But you know what? That's okay. Currently in soft-launch in Canada, Angry Birds Stella POP! might not be the most original game, but it's very well put together, looks lovely, and sounds even better. Here's what it looks like. [App Store link]…
3 brilliant Angry Birds-themed Rube Goldberg machines
If ever there was a game series ripe for the old Rube Goldberg treatment, it's Angry Birds. You've got the tense trial and error fun of physics already built right in to the gameplay, plus a target to be toppled through careful manipulation of the environment. It practically screams Rube Goldberg, does Rovio's bird-flinger. It's no surprise that other people on the Internet have though the same. Here's the best three captured on video and uploaded to YouTube. Small but perfectly formed I think Logan might be slightly spoiled That's a lot of takes…
9 must-see real life versions of mobile video games, featuring Surgeon Sim, Candy Crush, Clash of Clans, and more
Have you ever finished playing a game and been so into it that you can't stop thinking about it, even in day-to-day life? I have. There was a whole week after playing Assassin's Creed where every rooftop looked like a potential escape route from any angry Borgias I might run into while wondering around Bristol city centre. A bunch of other people clearly have too, as they've gone ahead and created real world versions of some of their favourite games. And these are 9 of the very best... Subway Surfers - A great video, one heck of an ending. Crossy Road - Do not try this at home folks. Angry Birds - This one gets bonus points for being interactive. Clash of Clans - I wouldn't want…
5 stupendous Angry Birds cakes that will make you say 'Mum, I want one of these for my next birthday, not a boring tray cake from Marks and Sparks again'
Last time we looked at video game cakes featuring Rovio's plucky bird brains, we focused on the “playable” ones. They're awesome, obviously, but for some people the thought of making a cake is hard enough, let alone making it a full Angry Birds level you can fling birds at. So I've gathered together a load of examples of cakes that are a little more static, but just as cool. The five videos you can see below represent the pinnacle of what YouTube has to offer when it comes to Angry Birds-themed cakes, featuring guides and demonstrations by brilliant YouTubers Rosanna Pansino, Cakes StepByStep, CakesByChoppA, MyCupcakeAddiction, and LauraPoopie. These are the 7 very best 'playable' Angry Birds cakes on the Internet
I was looking for Angry Birds cakes to put together a little video article like last week's Minecraft cakestravaganza, but along the way I noticed that a whole bunch of the videos showing them off described them as "playable". Completely fascinated, I fell down a rabbit hole of cake-based YouTube awesomeness, and found that lots of cake makers have decided that just eating a delicious baked treat isn't enough - now they want you to be able to play with your food. Intrigued? Take a look at these super sweet cakes, courtesy of YouTubers electricpigtv, Ivan Alexander, EvanTubeHD, Brad Simmons, vallauryne, Richard Houghton, and Veronica Yang. electricpigtv Ivan Alexander EvanTubeHD B…
Want to make your own level in Angry Birds? This video will show you how
Rovio is set to celebrate its fifth BirdDay by allowing selected players to create the levels for their next update to Angry Birds. All you need to do is visit the official website, pick a theme, then submit your idea in the form of a photo or a drawing. The winners will be included in the BirdDay episode for Angry Birds when it launches on December 11th.…
Angry Birds Transformers trailer demonstrates why Rovio's new game will make me homeless
If you're lucky enough to be attending San Diego Comic-Con then you might have already seen the new trailer for Angry Birds Transformers. If you're stuck at home, at school, or even worse, at work, then never fear, because you can see the new video here. The video shows off a CGI render of various Angry Birds as Transformers, running through the environment and battling piggy enemies. Astrotrain, Optimus Prime, and Megatron all make an appearance, and they seem to be fighting on the same side too, which is neat. What's not so neat is that this new trailer also shows off the new TelePods, which you'll be able to scan and subsequently bring new characters into your game. Since I'm a gigan…
Hands-on with Angry Birds Go!'s Multiplayer Update 1, in which all is not quite what it seems
I've always said I like Angry Birds Go!, even when it's meant receiving death threats. It's a great kart racer, and though it has its faults, they're minimal. However, even I was wondering why multiplayer wasn't included when it was originally released back in December 2013. Rovio is fixing that with the first part of its big multiplayer update for the game, meaning that races with real people are now possible in Angry Birds Go!. Or are they...? It's not quite as black and white as that, as I explain below...…
The Angry Birds are going to South Hamerica in the latest Seasons update
Those Angry Birds are at it again, this time with another huge update to Angry Birds Seasons. This latest embiggening of the aggressive avian’s adventures sends the flock to South Hamerica to take on 24 new levels. These new missions have you firing your birds over mountains to try and stop the evil piggies from stealing treasure. The mountain range - probably called the Hamdes - is filled with ancient statues, relics, and rope bridges for you to smash your way through as you attempt to bring down the savage swine by solving the game’s physics-based puzzles. The 24 standard levels are accompanied by three bonus stages, providing you are skilled enough to unlock them. Angry…
Angry Bird Transformers will have you looking for robots in the skies
With a new movie on the horizon, Transformers fever is about to strike again. To really make the most of this Hasbro has joined forces with Rovio to create Angry Birds Transformers. This partnership means that - like Angry Birds Star Wars - Angry Birds Transformers will be both a game and a toy line. In keeping with this Hasbro has revealed its line of ‘Telepod’ toys, due for release later this year. These will take a similar path to Activision’s Skylanders series, letting you transport your toys into the game. However, whether Angry Birds Transformers will operate using similar near field communication technology and if it will require an additional peripher…
Angry Birds Epic Review
At this point the Angry Birds are more than just feathery projectiles in a physics puzzler. They have become icons that can leap into any medium they choose. Like Mario before them, their first step was into the world of kart racing, and now they have progressed to a strategy RPG with the turn-based Angry Birds Epic. To keep things easy for genre first-timers, Epic does away with exploration of similar titles. Instead it adopts a map that will be familiar to free-to-play fans, with fi…
Watch The Video ReviewRovio's avian RPG Angry Birds Epic will fly onto iPhone and iPad this Thursday
Feather-filled RPG spin-off Angry Birds Epic was soft-launched in Canada and New Zealand back in March. Now, three months later, it is set to arrive on App Stores worldwide this Thursday. Angry Birds Epic takes Rovio’s iconic cast of irate avians and thrusts them into a tactical turn-based game reminiscent of a JRPG. Think Final Fowl-tasy, and you are on the right track. The birds have all been redesigned to suit the game’s medieval world, and act as a shorthand for their combat abilities. The red bird is covered in armour to show its new role as a powerful knight, while the yellow bird dons a pointy hat to demonstrate its magical abilities. Individual battles are…
