Hands-on with Soccer Runner, the footie-focused endless runner featuring... Mr. Miyagi...?

So yes, Soccer Runner has a slightly odd cameo in it. But aside from the inclusion of Kesuke Miyagi, and the football theme to proceedings, Soccer Runner is a fairly by-the-numbers auto-runner. You swipe to avoid obstacles by dodging or jumping or sliding, and there are special boosts to grab along the way that will aid you with your quest for a highscore. That said, there's a cool addition whereby you can kick the ball to break some obstacles, and the QTE sequences at the end of stages are nifty too. Here are my first thoughts on the game, captured in video form.…

Hands-on with Tiki Taka Soccer, the thoroughly sensible game of soccer

So while I may not adore the actual sport of foot-to-ball, I have on occasion known to like a high quality video rendition of the pastime. Tiki Taka Soccer is definitely one of those games. With elements of classic footie video games, mixed up with modern game design sensibilities, this still-in-development title is looking very promising indeed.…

Hands-on with FIFA 15 Ultimate Team, the hotly anticipated mobile sequel to the biggest sports franchise in the world

I'm not much of a football fan, as many of you will know by now, but I was really impressed by time with FIFA 15 Ultimate Team. There's clearly a lot of depth here for those that want it, and challenge for the FIFA veterans with eyes on the cup, but for a casual fan of football games, like me, it also contains a stripped back touch control method to get you playing well quickly. Click play on the video below for my preview of the soft-launched version that's currently doing the rounds in Canada.…

Champ Man 15 is an iOS exclusive, Android owners left on the bench this season

Square Enix has confirmed that football management title Champ Man will be getting its annual update this year, and that the game will - rather expectedly - be called Champ Man 15. What's unexpected is that Champ Man 15 is exclusively headed to iPhones and iPads, with no word on whether Android owners will be able to get in on the fun this year. Want a trailer? Tough. Some screens? Sorry. But we do have the app logo for you. It looks like this; Other info on Champ Man 15 we've received covers off the essentials: it's free-to-play, will feature 440 real-life clubs in 23 leagues from around the world, and will include all the promotions, transfers, and stats from the 2014 / 2015 seas…

Hands-on with Soccer Physics, the ridiculous football game where you'll use just one button in every match

Hands-on with Soccer Physics, the ridiculous football game where you'll use just one button in every match

There's been a spate of excellent games recently that have taken the sport of soccer (or football, if you're not American) and made something silly and fun and new from it. SnapMatch Soccer was one, Uppercup Football is another, and now Soccer Physics has been added to the group. Much like its creator's previous games, Soccer Physics is a simple one button game that has you controlling your team with just the one button, and therefore any strategies and nuance that comes from this blunt approach to control emanates from a lot of skill from the player, and a pinch of luck. I absolutely adored the time I spent with Soccer Physics, here's why...…

Hands-on with Uppercup Football, the hilarious one-button soccer game to cure your World Cup blues

Hands-on with Uppercup Football, the hilarious one-button soccer game to cure your World Cup blues

I don't think I could hold my own in a big manly man talk about football down the pub. The current state of the Premier League is a mystery to me, and the only thing I know about the most recent World Cup is that this Brazilian man is very sad for some reason. But that hasn't stopped me loving the heck out of Uppercup Football. You have to get the ball from one end of the pitch to the other and score a goal, like other games of soccer, but in your way are vikings, minefields, shrubbery, and all manner of other obstacles. It's all controlled by just one button, and getting a red card results in having a paper bag put on your head. Also one of my players looks like Skrillex. Awesome. Upperc…
