Rockstar puts all iOS Grand Theft Auto games on sale
With the long-awaited release Grand Theft Auto V only a couple of months away, Rockstar has decided to whet our appetites (for destruction) with an iOS GTA sale. This means that for a limited time you can grab GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: Chinatown Wars at the reduced price of £1.99 / $2.99 each. We were big fans of both the iOS ports of GTA III and GTA: Vice City, and would definitely recommend revisiting their crime-streaked streets to brush up on your car-jacking technique. If you more interested in depressing voiceover and bullet-time shoot-outs than vehicular manslaughter, then you'll be pleased to hear that Max Payne Mobile is also going cheap. You can pick up the noir bl…

Sine Mora Review
Sine Mora is a game about time. In this beautiful bullet-hell blaster - just like in real life - it's a commodity you never seem to have enough of. As you guide your futuristic aircraft through the near constant barrage of neon bullet-sprays, you'll find yourself glancing not at an energy bar, but at a timer. Every time you get shot in Sine Mora, valuable seconds are deducted from the clock. Let the timer reach zero, and it's game over. The only way to win time back is by destroying e…
Watch The Video ReviewDeus Ex: The Fall Review
Shoot or sneak? Hack or attack? Immobilise or kill? These are the choices you are confronted with throughout Deux Ex: The Fall. Taking its lead from the console-based Deus Ex: Human Revolution, this iOS spin-off sticks very close to its heavily augmented gold-tinged roots. On the plus side, this means you get a some stellar visuals, and narrative-driven campaign featuring missions which can be completed using either aggressive or non-aggressive tactics. On the downside, it means you ha…

LIMBO Game Review
There's a recurring set piece in Limbo which involves a spider. You're making your way through the grey fog, plodding towards the next jump or physics puzzle, when a set of spindly legs hove into view behind you. You can't run especially fast, but the spider is in no hurry. A rising terror creeps up your back as you push forward, desperate to escape the advancing arachnid's hairy, stabbing limbs. If you don't think fast, a grisly death awaits you. You run. You jump. You hope. You'll e…
Watch The Video ReviewTop 3 iOS games June 2013
June was quite a month for iOS gamers. Not only did we get some quality App Store exclusives and anticipated sequel, we also got ports of some top class console and PC titles. Let's see which of them made into AppSpy's top three, shall we? Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Bioware, Aspyr) $6.99 iPad-only First up, here's a port of game which originally appeared a long time ago, on a console far, far too big. Yes, classic Xbox RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic landed on iPad last month. Though it may be 10 years old, the game's intuitive combat systems, expansive environments, and rich narrative still give most modern RPGs a run for their money. It's a little pricey, but c…
League of Evil 3 Review
League of Evil 3 is hard. You remember the first two games in the series? Remember restarting levels 20, 30, even 40 times, all the while cursing your disobedient thumbs for every mistimed jump overlooked bullet? Yeah. This one's harder. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing depends on your appetite for punishment. You see, League of Evil 3 manages to embody everything that made the franchise the platforming powerhouse it is today. The controls are still some of the tightest yo…
Watch The Video ReviewIcebreaker: A Viking Voyage HD Review
Physics puzzlers: there's a ton of 'em about. One's got birds in. It's quite popular. Now there's another one. It's got some birds in too. But mostly ice. Ice and Vikings. And birds. It's called Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage. We think its dead good. Here's why. Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage is like a really good sandwich. It provides you with a nourishing core, surrounded by a bunch of easily digestible, but thoroughly satisfying layers. At its frosty heart, it's a game about slicing ice…

XCOM®: Enemy Unknown iPad Review
The iOS version of XCOM: Enemy Unknown represents something of a gamble. Developer 2K China has spent time and money of porting last year’s console and PC strategy favourite to iPad and iPhone. This is no companion app – XCOM iOS is the real deal. Apart from some derezzed visuals and a slightly smaller map count, what you’re looking at is the complete XCOM experience in portable, touchscreen form. If you were abducted by aliens and missed the hype surrounding the gam…
Watch The Video ReviewRovio publishes Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage
With Angry Birds steward Rovio now taking smaller devs under its expansive wings, we're going to see some new iOS games with some seriously flashy trailers. The first game to get the Rovio Stars big budget video treatment is Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage. It's a 3D physics puzzler that bears a passing resemblance to Rovio's own bird-flinging franchise. However, instead of catapulting fowl towards pigs, you must swipe blocks of ice to free your viking buddies from their frosty tombs. You won't just be liberating Nordic warriors, though. There are chests of treasure to grab, quests to complete, and bosses to fight along the way. We suggest you have a look at the Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage t…
Despicable Me: Minion Rush Review
Temple Run has a lot to answer for. Since the monumental success of the 3D auto-runner, it has become the default template for developers looking to score an accessible, family-friendly hit. Despicable Me: Minion Rush is the latest Gameloft movie tie-in to follow this trend. You take control of one of Gru's yellow helpers, whom you must direct left and right, up, and down towards collectable bananas, and away from oncoming hazards. If you've ever played an endless runner, you know ex…

Pinball Rocks HD iPad Review
Pinball Rocks HD is an odd franchise. On the surface, it's a free-to-play pinball title, featuring a selection of purchasable rock 'n roll-themed tables. However, browse through the song selection menu, and you discover the trappings of a music game, one which is keen for you to shell out cash for extra tunes. In actual fact, the expandable soundtrack is just that: a soundtrack. The only way music impacts gameplay is thematically. While the basic free-to-play table is dressed in gener…
