Badlands gets a release date
Frogmind Games's gorgeous looking physics based sort-of-a-platformer Badlands has been given a release date and a brand new gameplay trailer. You can check out the trailer at the end of the story, and as for the release date you can expect the game at the start of next month. April the 4th to be precise, which just misses the projected release date we had of “March”, but only by four days, so we guess we can forgive Frogmind. Especially if Badlands plays half as good as it looks. Described by the dev as a side-scrolling action adventure, the game sees you leading a blob through a variety of traps and hazards. Multiplayer modes are included, which look like frantic races through…
PWN: Combat Hacking slices onto the App Store
PWN: Combat Hacking is a strategy game with a difference. Rather than battling it out over digitally realised terrain with little tanks and soldiers, you're fighting against firewalls and other security in an attempt to break into a secure server. Your weapons here are viruses and trojans, and the nodes you're trying to capture are actual nodes rather than places on a battlefield where terrifying monsters spawn. The whole game looks gorgeous, with a stylish cyberpunk aesthetic that should at the very least keep your eyes interested for a while. “I’ve always loved those ludicrously fake hacking scenes that you see in movies, and it seemed like the perfect premise for a video gam…
Unstoppabot launch trailer
SeeThrough Studios has released a launch trailer for their endless runner-puzzle game mash up Unstoppabot, which hit the App Store earlier in the week. The game mixes logic puzzles with an ever-running robot to create something a bit unique. As you can see in the video we've embedded below the game has a neat looking cartoon style, as well as a wicked sense of humour running throughout. Hoepfully it'll make a pleasant change from some of the more po-faced endless runners we've been confronted with recently. Unstoppabot is available now from the App Store for nothing at all and you can grab it by clicking here. Or if you'd prefer, stick around and watch the trailer below to get an idea of w…
Unmechanical hits the App Store on the 18th
Indie 2.5D side scrolling PC hit Unmechanical is making its way to iOS devices next Monday, the 18th of March, and bringing with it a strange story or organic and mechanical life, a plucky little robot, and an incredibly powerful tractor beam. First released in 2012 for the PC, the game went on to win the Best Game award at the Brazilian International Games Festival. “The feedback from fans and critics following the PC release has been great, and while it took some time, it feels awesome to finally have the iOS version finished. We’re more than happy to share our passion-project with iOS players!” said Marko Permanto, project lead for the Unmechanical team in a press rele…
Super Stickman Golf 2 coming Thursday
Super Stickman Golf 2, the sequel to one of our favourite, 5/5 winning iOS golf games, has finally been given a release date. And we don't have long to wait, because it's this Thursday. We might call it Thurs-yay from now on. This time round there are two different multiplayer modes. One lets you duke it out with an opponent in a turn based golfing duel to the death, or the 19th hole. Race Mode is also returning from the first game, letting you battle up to three opponents in a race to the cup. Golf has never been so frantic. Throw in 20 different courses with a slew of new and exciting obstacles for you to traverse, as well as customisable characters, and you're left with a game even non-…
Fully knitted endless runner makes it onto iOS
Some games make spurious claims about their graphics, staking claim to being the best looking, most polygon rich title available. Others like to brag about their features, showing off how unique they are. Knitted Deer does both of these in one fell swoop. That's because this is the first “fully knitted” game available on iOS. I'll just let that sink in for a bit. Fully. Knitted. The game sees you playing as a deed on a knitted sweatshirt, endlessly running through a world full of obstacles, vile creatures, and power-ups. All of which are knitted. Because this is the first “fully knitted” game. If you want to experience just what that means, the game is available fr…
Combo Crew hitting iOS soon
The Game Bakers, the developer behind the Squids series of flicky action RPGs, has released the first gameplay footage of its new game, Combo Crew. It's looking like a pretty decent brawler, complete with controls designed from the ground up for touch screens. Scheduled for a release in the coming months on both iOS and Android, the game casts you as one of a trio of scrappers who are fighting their way up the tower where they're being held hostage. Once one member of your crew goes down, you take over control of another to continue the battle. "With Combo Crew, we wanted to bring back the spirit of the old console beat 'em ups - the ones you used to play on the couch with your buddies - i…
iOS games win big at the BAFTAs
It was a busy night for iOS developers at the BAFTA Games Awards, with 4 different games collecting the prestigious awards at a black tie event in London. The Room came away with Best British Game, New Star Soccer won the Best Sports/Fitness award, SongPop won Best Online, and TellTale's The Walking Dead series captured the awards for Best Mobile & Handheld and Best Story. All in all it was a successful night for the mobile gaming industry, and it's fair to say that every game that won richly deserved it. Perhaps next year we'll see iOS gaming getting even more recognition, maybe even a nomination for a mobile only game in the prestigious Game of the Year prize. After all, there have…
Sonic Dash dashing onto iOS
It's fair to say that Sonic's modern adventures haven't been up to the same standards as his classic escapades. Well, Sega are looking to change that with Sonic Dash, a new endless runner featuring everyone's favourite anthropomorphic hedgehog. The game is being developed by Hardlight Studios, the team behind Sonic Jump which is one of the better recent games to bear the blue speedster's moniker. We gave it a 4 in our review which you can read by clicking here. Details are a little thin on the ground at the moment. We know it'll be an endless runner, we know at least some of it's going to be set in the Seaside Hill Zone, and we know that you'll be playing as Sonic. There's some mention of…
Flee from angels in Shadow Escaper
If you like your endless runners dressed up in a slick anime jacket with the pedigree of a triple-A console developer behind them, then Shadow Escaper is going to tick all of your boxes. Developed by cyber2connect, the company behind the recent Xbox 360 and PS3 action adventure game Asura's Wrath, Shadow Escaper is an endless runner in the third person, Temple Run vein, that sees your super cute Anime character sprinting down a never-ending track. You're being chased by angels who want to drag you back to a prison you've managed to escape from. The twist is all the energy you collect during the day can be turned against your pursuers at night, shifting the balance of power. With simple co…
Danmaku Unlimited 2 out now
Fans of weaving a small spaceship through a hail of bullets rejoice! Danmaku Unlimited 2 has exploded onto the App Store, bringing with it enough neon hued bullet hell mayhem to keep you entertained for hours. The game casts you as a single spaceship battling against thousands. Luckily you've got a series of ridiculously powerful weapons at your disposal, and the bad guys always blast out bullets with small enough gaps between them for you to dodge through. There are two different modes to play through, and five stages, each with four difficulty settings. It's a tough old game, that's for sure, but it's also gorgeous, and addictive in that old fashioned arcade way that people love so much.…
Cognition: Episode One hits the App Store
The iPad is slowly becoming a second home for the point and click adventure, a point hammered home with the release of Phoenix Online Studios's Cognition: Episode One. The game casts you as Erica Reed, an FBI agent who has the power of post-cognition. She can pick up objects and see what happened to them in their past. Now she's on the trail of four killers, and one of them knows about her power. Cue lots of object finding, mysterious puzzle solving, and some gorgeous looking graphics. If you're a fan of the adventure genre, then you're likely to find a whole lot here to get your pointing and clicking teeth into. Put together by something of an adventure game dream team, Cognition: Episod…
Gemini Rue coming to iOS devices
If you like your point and click adventures gritty, old skool, and set in the reasonably distant but still recognisable future, then Wadjet Eye Games has a special treat in store for you in the shape of Joshua Nuernberger's Gemini Rue. First released in 2011 on PC, the game is set to make its way to the App Store in the next couple of months, bringing with it a graphical adventure that owes its style to the few years in the late eighties and early nineties when pointing and clicking was king. There's scant information on the iOS release just yet, with Wadjet Eye only saying that the game will have a UI that fits more comfortably onto touch screen devices. Which is good, because we didn't w…
Journey to Hell gets a release date and a trailer
The game formerly known as Project Holy Shield, Journey to Hell, has received a new trailer ahead of its imminent launch. And we have to say it's looking like a pretty interesting, gory, third person shooter. You play as one of two members of Project Holy Shield, Gabriel and Rachel, and it's up to you to kill as many terrifying demons as you can. You'll have plenty of weapons to choose, from twin pistols to flame throwers and machine guns. There are 7 levels to fight your way through, and a dynamic “real time render” audio engine to scare the pants off you. The game looks as grim and gritty as you'd expect, and is set to hit the App Store on the 7th of March, or a week on Thurs…
Speed Kills hits the App Store running
Speed Kills is a top down racer, powered by the Unreal Engine, that harks back to the glory days of Micro Machines and Skid Marks with its violent, action packed, hard cornering gameplay. And you can grab it right now from the App Store for nothing at all. The game features more than 100 races spread across 50 unique tracks, and fully upgradeable vehicles that can look like sleek futuristic rocket ships or post-apocalyptic death trucks. Throw in some weapons and you've got a recipe for destruction. It certainly looks the part, and there's a pumping industrial rock soundtrack to make your ears bleed too. Getting the right balance of arcade handling and decent controls can be difficult on to…
