Avadon 2: The Corruption coming later this year
If you like your RPGs old skool, your view points isometric, and your epic adventures quest based, then you're probably going to get pretty excited at the prospect of the recently revealed Avadon 2: The Corruption. The second in Spiderweb Software's deep, heavy going RPG series, this new adventure, which is the middle chunk of a proposed trilogy, is set to pick up where its predecessor left off, adding new intrigues and story lines for you to get your teeth into. This isn't RPGing for the faint of heart or the action orientated though, much like its predecessor the game is set to offer deep character advancement, plenty of lore, and hours upon hours of quests, side quests, and diversions f…
The Witness heading to iOS
In all the bluster over the PS4 reveal last night, you might have missed a pretty interesting snippet of information – The Witness, created by Jonathan Blow the man behind seminal mind warping platformer Braid, is coming to iOS devices. A puzzle game set in an open world, The Witness sees you interacting with a series of panels in order to manipulate the gorgeous looking island you find yourself on. The brain teasers on offer are non-linear, so if you get stuck on one you can wander over to the next and have a crack at that instead. In a post over at the PlayStation blog, Thekla Inc., the team working on the game, said that the game is really about “epiphany – that leap y…
Everplay gives you 1001 Attempts
If you like your iOS games as hard, or harder than, nails, then Spellsword developer Everplay could well have a special treat waiting for you at the end of the month in the shape of 1001 Attempts. It's a game that's all about trying, dying, and trying again. Presented in a simple, retro style, the game throws you into an empty room and tasks you with collecting some gems. Of course, it's much tougher than that, as you can tell from the trailer we've embedded below. It doesn't take long for obstacles to start springing out of the walls, and that's when the real trouble starts. 1001 Attempts is tapping into the one-more-try arcade mentality that makes you push on even though your fingers are…
Chillingo releases The Gods: Rebellion trailer
Chillingo has released a trailer for its upcoming hack and slasher The Gods: Rebellion, and the Unreal 3 powered game looks like it's shaping up to be a pleasantly violent diversion from the drudgery of real life. Based on ancient Chinese legend, the game takes its visual cues from the likes of Diablo, throwing you into a sort of isometric world and then giving you lots and lots of things to kill. And, as you'd expect from a game powered by Unreal tech, it looks pretty impressive. Details are slim on the ground at the moment, but Chillingo has revealed that there'll be two distinct game modes to play through, and characters and upgrades to unlock. They've also stated the app will be univer…
Alien Breed creeps onto Android
If you're the sort of Android owning gamer who goes misty eyed for the long forgotten days of the Amiga 500, then it's shaping up to be a pretty good week for you with the release of Team 17's xenomorph blasting classic Alien Breed onto the Google Play Store. The game borrows heavily from a slightly more famous series of films with the word Alien in their title, and casts you as a lone space marine trapped on a crashing space ship with nothing but a horde of slavering monsters to keep you company. Rather than coming out of the walls, these extra terrestrial slaughter machines tend to come out of the floors, and you'll need your wits about you if you plan on surviving through the 22 levels…
Metal Slug Wars hits Canada
If you've ever thought that the Metal Slug series of games was too focused on non-stop violence, platforming fun, and slapstick comedy, then you're in luck, because SNK apparently agrees with you. And to right that wrong, they've released Metal Slug Wars on the Canadian App Store. Rather than sticking to the tried and tested Metal Slug formula, the game is a massively multiplayer RTS that sees you storming the defences of the evil General Morden in order to try and put an end to his evil and nefarious insurrection. You'll get to build bases, train your troops and generally do all the fun things that an RTS lets you get along with. Who wants to take on giant bosses single handedly in battle…

After the prestigious movie awards over the weekend, it's now the turn of the games industry in the UK to reward the movers and shakers of the last twelve months, and there's more than a few iOS games in the mix for the big prizes. Chief amongst them is The Room, which is up for four awards - Artistic Achievement, Best British Game, Best Debut Game, and Best Mobile and Handheld game. It's up against stiff competition in the Mobile and Handheld category from Incoboto, New Star Soccer, Super Monsters Ate My Condo, and The Walking Dead. As well as PS Vita title, Little Big Planet. Elsewhere, Terry Cavanagh's hectic and highly addictive Super Hexagon is up for Best British Game, and Simogo's e…
Fishlabs unveils Galaxy On Fire - Alliances
So far the Galaxy on Fire games have been about flying around space, shooting anything that moves, but Fishlabs, the German developer behind the hugely succesful franchise, has decided to do something a little different for the next entry. Step forward Galaxy on Fire - Alliances, a free to play massively multiplayer RTS that sees you taking control of one of three different species - the Terrans, Vossk and Nivelians - and using your tactical nous, diplomacy skills, and resource management knowledge to take over a hitherto unexplored part of the cosmos. “Never before in the eight years of our existence have we worked on a title with a team as big as the Alliances team,“ s…
New trailer for Blitz Brigade
Two bits of news have just been released for Gameloft's upcoming multiplayer FPS, Blitz Brigade. First, there's a new gameplay trailer, which you can check out at the bottom of the article. Second, the game has been soft released in France. For those who don't know what that means, essentially the game has been given a small scale release in a single territory to test how it works and make sure it's robust enough for a global release. It also means, thanks to some Google Translate magic, we've been able to dig up some more info about the game. It looks like there are going to be five classes to choose from - soldier, gunner, doctor, sniper, and stealth agent (we expect that'll become secre…
Real Racing 3 set to hit the App Store sooner than expected?
It looks like Real Racing 3 might be closer than we thought, after an eagle eyed member of the PocketGamer team spotted EA and Firemonkeys's high quality racer in the Game Center list of EA marketing guru Ben Clarke. If it's on a Game Center list, that means it must have been approved by Apple, and if it's been approved by Apple, that means it should be with us in the next few days. We've already shown you a couple of developer diaries in the past couple of months, so no doubt you're as excited as we are by the news. PG reports that there are 65 achievements to unlock in the game, and at least 40 different cars for you to collect and race on tracks from all across the world. We…
Random Heroes 2 details emerge
Ravenous Games has released some new information on the upcoming Random Heroes 2. You might know Ravenous as the developer behind the League of Evil series, or the recent, really enjoyable platformer Infestor. Random Heroes 2 is set to follow in the pixel style footsteps of Ravenous's earlier games, but they've made a few tweaks to try and assuage the problems fans had with the first game. The controls are now customisable, you can move backwards and shoot forwards, and a sliding fire button lets you take control of your vertical aim. There'll be more 3 zones to blast your way through, each with 30 levels and a boss battle at the end. Throw in crystal skulls and stars you can collec…

Another new developer diary for Real Racing 3
Firemonkeys has released a new developer diary for their upcoming racer, Real Racing 3, that sheds some light on the innovative new multiplayer modes that have been created for the game and giving us some more footage of the gorgeous looking game in motion. Asynchronous multiplayer is the order of the day, but it features a few new twists too, with the ghost cars you're racing against now more physical than ever. You can use them as makeshift brakes, clip their wheels, and generally drive like the person you're racing against didn't set their time a couple of days ago. There's still no concrete release date for the game, but it is expected sometime early this year. Until then, you'll just…
