Dead Dragons is about dragons who are actually not dead, but they soon will be, maybe

Imagine this: you're part of a big human empire that - over 100 years ago - managed to wipe out the dragons that once plagued your lands. Then you find out that they're not all gone after all, and that maybe humans and dragons have a lot more in common than you first thought. That's the situation that the protagonist of Dead Dragons - a chap named Will - finds himself in, and it's up to him (and by proxy, you) to uncover their dragon-y mysteries across dozens of hours of JRPG. It's from Kemco, has a lovely 2D anime visual style, an intriguing battle system, and is out now on iOS and Android. [App Store link] [Google Play link]…

Seven Sacred Beasts crosses a monster battler with a hardcore JRPG, Kemco slashes price for its Android launch

Kemco's latest RPG Seven Sacred Beasts is out now on Android, and at half price - a tempting $3.99 - for its initial release. Seven Sacred Beasts looks like a monster-filled mash up of Pokemon and Final Fantasy, with lots of monsters to collect, level up, evolve, and battle, plus the usual JRPG melodramatics about dark knights and secret identities, all presented in a Super Nintendo era visual style. Sound good? Go grab it via the link below. [Google Play link]…

Kemco's RPG Band of Monsters goes from $7.99 to free for a limited time on iOS and Android

We all like something for nothing, and Kemco is offering RPG fans with iOS and Android devices exactly that. One of their role playing games - Machine Knight - has just hit 1,000,000 downloads on Android, so to celebrate Kemco is giving away another of its RPGs for free. It's called Band of Monsters, and considering that the game is usually priced $7.99 / £5.49, this promotion represents quite the saving on this usually premium title. Not convinced by the trailer? All you need to know is that you'll be going on a long quest to tame monsters around the world, combining them with one another when caught to make all-new monsters, and using them to fight in classic JRPG-style battles.…

Hands-on with Fanatic Earth, the JRPG about alien plagues, fighting baddies, and saving ladies in exchange for fine dining

Kemco has just released Fanatic Earth onto the iOS and Android app stores, and here's the elevator pitch that got me excited for that happening; Xilleon City is the last remaining bastion of humanity, which has seen the majority of its population wiped out by an alien disease. You play as a man with probably The Best Hair Ever who is unfortunately suffering from a spot of amnesia, and pretty soon you find yourself in trouble with a gigantic (and undoubtedly evil) corporation called Cyphate. If the above synopsis, and the below video is something you reckon you'll want to invest a few dozen hours in, then you best go grab Fanatic Earth now, as it's currently celebrating its launch with a sa…

Retro RPG sequel Across Age 2 HD slashes its way onto iPad

Things have changed since FDG's nostalgic RPG Across Age was released on the App Store back in 2010. Though old-skool Zelda-alikes were relatively thin on the ground four years ago, iOS gamer have since been drowned in a tidal wave of similarly styled retro-JRPG experiences. Unlike many of these one-shot copy / paste efforts, however, the newly released Across Age 2 HD - which is now available on iPad - does build on an established RPG franchise. And, to its credit, it doesn't seem to stick as closely to the cookie-cutter approach of some of its peers. The basic premise remains unchanged. You're cast as returning heroes Ales and Ceska, and must jump headfirst into another ti…
