Here are the best Game of Thrones games for iPhone and iPad
Everyone is going Game of Thrones crazy right now. It's because the first trailer for the newest series of the dirty sexy swords and intrigue drama has just come out. So now seems like the perfect time to look back at the Game of Thrones games you can get for mobile. Unfortunately there are only two really, but two things is still enough things to make a list out of. Well, it probably isn't, but I'm going to try anyway. As per usual you can click on the emboldened name of the games and be taken to the App Store where you can spend some of your hard-earned cash on picking them up. Except one of them is free. But you know what I mean. Game of Thrones - A Telltale Games Series Your choice…
Here are the iPhone and iPad BAFTA nominees, and which one's going to win
It's awards season. You might have noticed some furore over the Oscars a few weeks ago. Hopefully nothing like that is going to mar the BAFTA game awards, which are set to take place on April 6th in London. Five mobile games have been nominated, mostly in the Mobile category, unsurprisingly. There's bleed through to other awards, but for the big one, these are your nominees. Well, actually there are six nominees, but one of them's Pokemon Sun and Moon, which isn't really a mobile game, and will more than likely win. Anyway, I thought I'd rank the game's chances, creating excellent content in the meantime, and proving I don't know anything about odds. If you've not played any of the games…
The Thursday Find - Float
Oh Thursday, where have you been all my life? Just sitting about in the same place? Fourth day of the week? Right, well I should definitely start paying a little more attention then shouldn't I? Enough of that gibberish. Thursday at AppSpy means finding things. And the thing I've found today is an interesting, serene arcade game that, even though it has a few problems, is still worth checking out. But what is it? I imagine you're howling at the screen right now. Why it's Float, silly. And if you smash a click on the emboldened name of the game below you'll be swooshed away to the App Store where you can grab it. Fair? Float - £1.99 / $1.99 In Float you're controlling a flower. Well…
The best iPad and iPhone games to play for International Women's Day
It's International Women's Day, so what better time to celebrate the female protagonists on the App Store? Well, every day really, because it's important to cherish diversity and inclusivity. That's what we do here at AppSpy. And if you've got a problem with that, well do one, basically. If, on the other hand, you've got your own ideas about which woman-fronted mobile gaming experience you think deserves some plaudits, well chuck that in the comments. You can click on the emboldened game names below to download said games. Er, I think that covers everything so let's smash out a list. Lara Croft GO If you're looking for an iconic woman in gaming you don't need to look much further than…
The best games on sale for iPhone and iPad right now - March 8th
Wednesday. Ostensibly the third day of the working week. A time to sit down and take stock of the horrible mess you've made of everything? Nah mate, it's the perfect time to get some iPhone and iPad games for dirt cheap. But which ones should you get? Well if you ask me, which you clearly are doing since you've made it this far into the article, then you should definitely consider getting one of the five games that I've listed below. I mean, there are lots of games on sale right now. But most of them have 2048 in their name, or are horrible rip offs of fighting games that will, more than likely, install malware on your iOS device. But if that's what you're after, knock yourself out. If yo…
The Tuesday best of - Warhammer Fantasy Battle games on iPad and iPhone
There's a new Games Workshop game coming out soon. It's called Mordheim, it's currently in beta on mobile, and it's set at the orcs and elves end of the GW lore. So obviously I've decided to give you a run down of the three best Games Workshop games that you can play on iPhone and iPad right now, that are set in the swords and sorcery Warhammer era. Actually that doesn't really work because there's loads of swords and sorcery in the 40k timeline as well. Okay fine, these are the three best old-timey Warhammer games that money can buy. And if you click on the emboldened names of one of the trio, you'll be whisked to the App Store where you can spend some cash doing just that. Buying them.…
Nier: Automata is out this week, here are some iPad and iPhone games you could play instead
The big non-mobile release this week is probably Nier: Automata. It's a big gloomy hack and slash ARPG from the dev behind Bayonetta, and apparently it's really, really good. Y'know, if you're into that sort of thing. But what if you're into that sort of thing and you want to play on, oh I don't know, A MOBILE PHONE!?! Madness, I know, but you're hanging out with us here at AppSpy so I'm gonna guess you're probably into mobile gaming ever so slightly. So here are some games that share a tiny piece of DNA with Nier:Automata. And I do mean a tiny piece. Like, this is some seriously tangential stuff going on right here, but I gotta keep the content wolves from the content door, ya feel me? O…
The Monday Musing - What can the iPhone learn from the Nintendo Switch?
Well, Monday has shuffled into view, looking sad and wan and probably wishing that it was one of the cool days like Friday or Saturday. Sorry Monday, you're rubbish and we all hate you, and that's never going to change. Another thing that's never going to change is the order we put up content on AppSpy. We fear change, it is the enemy of the people. And that's why you're getting a Monday Musing today, on Monday. This week I thought it'd make sense to look at what Apple and iOS developers could, but probably won't, learn from the Nintendo Switch. I've presented it in list form as well, because that's all the rage nowadays and I can't really be bothered to try and innovate content presentati…
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is out now, here are some iPhone and iPad games that are a bit like it
Well, it's Switch launch day. I hope you got your console if you ordered one and you're having a lovely time tasting all those cartridges. Or whatever people do when they get new consoles. Playing games maybe? Anyway, the big release is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Apparently it's pretty good. You can read Pocket Gamer's review in progress of it by clicking on this link right here. But what if you haven't got a Switch? Or what if you ordered one and Game forgot to send you one? Well, we've got some mobile games right here that might sate that Zelda craving for a bit. Click on the emboldened names of the games and you'll be swooshed to the App Store where you can grab the game.…
The 5 best iPad and iPhone games this week - March 3rd
We're stumbling towards the end of another week. Sweaty and breathing heavily, desperate for the sweet, milky embrace of mother weekend. But that doesn't mean we have to stop the content, oh me oh my no. So let's kick things off with a round up of the five best games that came out on the App Store this week. It's been a pretty good seven days all told, especially if you like games. If you don't, I'm sort of unsure as to what you're doing here. Anyway, click on the emboldened game names and you'll be able to “purchase” that specific piece of digital entertainment. Y'know, if you wanna. And if you think I've missed anything, feel free to add your own suggestions to the comments b…
Which is the better portable games machine, the iPhone or the Nintendo Switch? FIGHT!
The Switch is so close I can almost taste its plasticy cartridges. Although apparently they taste horrid, so maybe don't stick them in your mouth (addendum: WHY ARE PEOPLE STICKING SWITCH CARTRIDGES IN THEIR GOBS!?!). Anyway, since the Switch is a new handheld game console, I was wondering whether it had the chops to replace your iPhone as the go-to on-the-go gaming system. And there's really only one way to figure that out. Obviously it's with a word fight. A word fight in list form. This list should be considered in no way scientific, and probably slightly biased. But the winner is the definitive portable system, and if you want to argue you're wrong. But you can do it in the comments be…
The iPhone and iPad Thursday Find - Breakforcist
How it is Thursday already? Are the clocks broken? Has someone been fiddling around with time in order to confuse and disorientate me? I hope not, because that would be really mean, and I'm not as bad as I sometimes pretend to be. Anyway, Thursday Find time. This week we've got a rehash(brown)ing of an arcade classic. It's got a breakfast twist though. And some ghosts. And giant pancakes. And all of those things are great. Breakfast food is the best food. But what is it? Why it's Breakforcist. And if you click on the emboldened name of the game just below this paragraph, you'll slide over to the App Store where you can grab it. And you should. So there. Breakforcist - £2.99 / $2.99…
The best games on sale on iPhone and iPad right now - March 1st
Oh hi there Wednesday. You're the day dedicated to Odin, the Allfather. You probably already knew that though. Except you probably didn't, because you're a day, and days tend not to really know anything. Anyway, rather than sacrificing ourselves in the branches of the World Tree, here at AppSpy we spend our Wednesdays rounding up the best games that are on sale right now on iPad and iPhone. Just seems simpler somehow. There are a few gems here, and one game that didn't really come out all that long ago. And don't forget you can click the emboldened name of the game to head to the App Store and fill your boots. With games. Game boots? Football Manager Mobile 2017 - £6.99 / $6.99 T…
Breath of the Wild hands-on and a whole load of Switch news
Look, I know we're AppSpy. I know we're supposed to sit around and talk about apps and the various things we do to spy on them. But it's Switch release week, and our video arm has gone and made a video. And it's a video of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is probably one of the most anticipated portable games in, oh I don't know, FOREVER. And I love content synergy so much, so I just had to show you it. The video features everyone's favourite person called James, and Pocket Gamer's editor Glen Fox. It's Glen that's been playing the game, and while he's embargoed up the wazoo, he still dishes some dirt on the latest entry in the classic series. You can watch the video... NOW. Y…
The Tuesday best of - Facebook Messenger games
Oh look, it's already Tuesday. Together we have defeated Monday, left it a bloody and gibbering wreck on the floor, and moved on without a single backwards glance. Well done us, top marks. But Tuesday here at AppSpy means it's time to look at three great games you should be playing on your mobile right now. And I've decided to come at this from leftfield this week. Rather than looking at games on the App Store, we're going to look at Facebook Messenger games. In fact, we're going to look at these three Facebook Messenger games. Snake Obviously I'm going to tell you that you should be playing snake on your phone. If it was up to me we'd all still be playing Snake on our battered old Nok…
