Tiny Realms gets yet another sizeably satisfying update

You know those pretty awesome Bastion troops TinyMob added to Tiny Realms not so long ago? Well, you can now give them one of three specific orders to ensure they're doing their awesome thing exactly as you want them to. This is as part of a new update just released that also includes realm building reminders (messages appearing above buildings with helpful reminders) and updated faction unit traits.  For a much, MUCH more in-depth look at the most recent update, why not watch this amusing video created by the devs themselves: Talkin' Tiny Episode VII: The Tiny Awakens. Now, if I can just remember which topical film franchise they got that title from...…

Awesome Inkle adventure 80 Days is landing on Android devices this month

We loved Inkle's 80 Days when we first got handsy with it back in July. Now, it's finally making the trip over to Android - on December 16th, to be precise. This is definitely a case of better late than never. It's a digital interactive storybook based on the Jules Vernes novel Around the World in Eighty Days. You play as Jean Passepartout as he attempts to - you guessed it - travel around the world in 80 days, with his travelling companion Phineas Fogg. Whilst you wait, why not watch James playing the  iOS version of the game for the first time back in July. Trust us - if you an Android gamer, December 16th can't come soon enough.…

9 Game of Thrones alternatives for Android

As per usual, fellow Androiders, we have been left out in the cold. Yes, another TellTale game has arrived on the App Store well before an expected Android release date. For shame. Not to worry, though, because AppSpy has got you covered with a specially-tailored list of  Game of Thrones alternatives for Android. They may not be adventure games but we can assure you that they'll evoke a similar spirit to Game of Throne's low-fantasy, high-death count world. 1. Game of Thrones Ascent An obvious place to start - this is an official Game of Thrones game set in the universe of the HBO TV show. It's a strategy RPG and a pretty good one, at that. 2. Ravensword: Shadowlands Fight with…

Yes, you read that correctly, Androiders. The highly-acclaimed Dragon Quest III has been released on Google Play first ,with an App Store version sure to follow - though it's not exactly certain when. Dragon Quest III is arguably the best game in the franchise and follows the child of Ortega on their sixteenth birthday who's mission (tasked by the King himself, no less) is to defeat the Archfiend Baramos, master of darkness. All of this can be yours for the princely price of £6.99 - just head on over to Google Play via the link below. Oh and, unfortunately, there's no trailer as of yet (though this will be updated with one as soon as there is) so here's our very own Pe…

Genre Busters: Stunt Racers (Twitch catch-up)

Yesterday evening, James and Peter of AppSpy casted a critical eye over four iOS stunt racers in a rather lively Twitch streaming session. MotoHeroz, Offroad Legends 2, Trials Frontier, and Joe Danger Infinity were the games of choice and, in case you missed it, we've included the full video below for your viewing pleasure. If you like what you see then why not join us this evening on Twitch (and every other weekday evening from now on) at 5PM, where there will be more games being played and more fun being had. Just don't forget to hit that lovely 'follow' button before you leave.…

The Witcher Adventure Game is out now on Android

Unless you've been living under a rock (or you don't care much for RPGs) chances are you've heard of The Witcher series. These excellent low-fantasy RPGs tell the tale of Geralt, the eponymous witcher (or 'mutant monster hunter' to the laymen), following the events of the novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski. Well, Geralt has now made the trip over to Android in the form of a digital board game based on the books, rather than the games. Triss Merigold, Yarpen Zigrin, and Dandelion the bard all feature as playable characters alongside Geralt, as you travel across a digital cardboard Rivia completing quests and slaying monsters. Check out the trailer below for a peek at how it plays in all i…

4 evil Android games to get you on Santa's naughty list this year

It's that time of year when the towns are filled with irate shoppers, your ears are bombarded with tacky faux-jovial tunes, and Santa conspires to fill your house with needless clutter. So in the spirit of Christmas we've come up with a list of four games to get you on St. Nick's naughty list this year, ensuring that that pesky Father Christmas will give your house a miss. 1. Snow Jinks - At first glance this appears to be a typical good versus evil game but take a quick look at those unlockable 'snowballs' and you'll soon see why we've included this on our naughty list 2. Ski Safari - An innocent skiier wakes up to an avalanche and does whatever he can to survive, including r…

The Android JRPG love-in continues with Heavenstrike Rivals

The now and future king of JRPGs, Square Enix, has gone ahead and made my Christmas dreams come true by announcing a brand new mobile JRPG IP in Heavenstrike Rivals. Heading to both Android and iOS for free this winter, Heavenstrike Rivals is a tactical RPG built from the ground up with mobile in mind. There'll be tappy tactical battles, PvP, over 200 characters to fight with, and a dramatic plot revolving around a pack of monsters trying to destroy a peaceful aerial kingdom. Add in music and characters designed by Final Fantasy alumni Ryoma Ito and Ryo Yamazaki of Tactics Advance and XIV respectively and it looks like we'll have a serious JRPG on ou…

Yet another Kemco RPG - Revenant Saga - is released for Android

In a move that surprised absolutely no one, Kemco has announced yet another JRPG for Android. What did we tell you about the best JRPGs hiding on Android? Revenant Saga follows the story of Albert who agrees to participate in a trial experiment in order to save his parents from a deadly plague. Obviously there's a little bit more to it than that - this is a JRPG we're talking about - but we won't be the ones to spoil it all for you. Check out the trailer below to get a load of that awesome 3D battling and, if you like what you see, head on over to Google Play. [Google Play link]…

Shoot explosive fluffy creatures out of your crossbow in Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath out now on iOS

Possibly the most critically acclaimed yet least remembered title ever, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, has been ported to iOS. We'd consider it a strange move considering it was built from the ground up for consoles if it just didn't look so damn good. It's been remastered, you see, and the controls, which have been tweaked for touchscreens, are fully configureable. Oh, and you can also use any old iOS-compatible games controller you have lying around. What we've gathered from looking at the trailer below is that this could easily be the definitive version of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath yet, and it will be hitting Android "very soon". Head on over to the App Store to [download] it n…

The soundtrack for Image & Form's upcoming SteamWorld Heist has been written by actual robots, sort of

Do not be alarmed, AppSpies, the world isn't about to be taken over by steam-powered robots - more's the pity. In fact, Steam Powered Giraffe is a band who masquerade as robots and they've written the soundtrack to Image & Form's upcoming sequel to SteamWorld Dig, SteamWorld Heist - which is confirmed to be headed to mobiles and tablets. That means all the songs and in-game music you hear will be written by them. They even feature in the game as a troupe that protagonist robot Captain Piper will encounter in bars when recruiting steampunk-y fighters - the likeness is pretty uncanny. SteamWorld Heist is a sequel to SteamWorld Dig due out in spring 2015, and in i…

Dare you take part in the closed beta of Earthcore: Shattered Elements?

Can't get enough card-based gaming on your iPad? Then you'll probably want to register for the chance to get one of 100 places in the closed beta test of another one, Earthcore: Shattered Elements. Earthcore: Shattered Elements is a - you guessed it - card battler that uses a rock-paper-scissors style system based around the three elements of Earth, Fire, and Water. We showed you a trailer for it earlier this month, remember? An interesting feature is the crafting tool, which allows you to craft your own cards. Apparently there are over 500,000 cards just waiting to be crafted. Check out this rather dramatic trailer to whet your appetite for some tappy card-based battling, then…

These 6 trailers prove that Android is the place for JRPGs in 2015

For years discerning gaming journalists and fans alike have prophesied the tragic death of a formerly untouchable genre - one that we all grew up with and share our finest gaming memories with. That's right, the JRPG, which is apparently dead, buried, and almost forgotten. Well, it turns out it isn't dead - it's just hiding on Android, where it will be re-emerging in 2015. Check out the trailers below for video evidence of this sleeping giant. Wizard Golf Shadowgate Breath of Fire 6 Project Phoenix Chaos Rings 3 Pier Solar and the Great Architects…

Sticko may get you out of a sticky situation this Christmas

Sticko may get you out of a sticky situation this Christmas

Sticko is being pitched as essentially the solution to all of life's problems - so long as all your problems are to do with multi-tasking while using your mobile. It's a pair of suction cups that stick to your phone and just about any surface. Imagine you're trying to have a phone call while washing the dishes (which is normally a two handed job). Thwack a Sticko thingy on that phone of yours, set it at mouth level, and Bob's your uncle: you're talking to your nan while elbow deep in Fairy. Best Christmas present ever? No, not by a long shot. Neat novelty item to get a phone-obsessed co-worker for their Secret Santa gift? Damn right. You can grab a Sticko here.…
