Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for iOS Multiplayer Meeting Point
Every Friday we play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on Twitch, and every Friday we see you guys and girls talking about setting up multiplayer sessions of your own. So it's high time we had an official AppSpy Community multiplayer room, populated with some of our awesome Monster Hunters. Here are the details; Details After the Monster Hunter stream - at 5PM UK, 9AM Pacific, 12 Eastern each Friday - we suggest that anyone fired up for some monster hunting hop into Online Gathering Hall 277779. If that room's full, try the next room numerically (277780, 277781, 277782 etc) We'd also love for you to put the name of your Hunter in the comments section on this article so people, and do feel f…
These 8 bone crunching Stair Dismount videos made me do a sick in my mouth
If you've decided to visit your pals at AppSpy today while enjoying a delicious meal, put the fork down for a moment, or scoff it down real quick. Because with these Stair Dismount videos - nicked off of that Everyplay - bones are crunched, limbs are twisted, and in one particularly nasty video a body is completely torn apart. It's kind of gross, and I'm not really sure AppSpy should be showing you this stuff but I'm going to do it anyway because I'm a rebel. I'll say this though: I made the mistake of gobbling down a banana while looking for these clips, and I'm not ashamed to admit that a little bit of it came back up in the process. I sure hope that's mud. Getting the boot. Meh…
Zodiac is a 2D JRPG with a story by the writer of Final Fantasy XV and a soundtrack from the composer of Final Fantasy Tactics
Here's why I'm excited for Zodiac; The game itself is being developed by Kobojo, a European outfit that seemingly have a bit of a passion for JRPGs. Talent includes peeps that have worked on Pokemon and a whole bunch of MMOs. The scenario is from the mind of Kazushige Nojima, whose previous work includes Final Fantasy VII, VIII, X, X-2, Final Fantasy XV, and Kingdom Hearts. Music is provided by Hitoshi Sakimoto, of Final Fantasy XII and Tactics fame, with credits on Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story, Gradius V, and more. The game promises an epic story, turn-based battles, platforming, puzzle solving, and an online persistent world to explore with friends. I'm pumped for this, and I think yo…
Hands-on with FIFA 15 Ultimate Team, the hotly anticipated mobile sequel to the biggest sports franchise in the world
I'm not much of a football fan, as many of you will know by now, but I was really impressed by time with FIFA 15 Ultimate Team. There's clearly a lot of depth here for those that want it, and challenge for the FIFA veterans with eyes on the cup, but for a casual fan of football games, like me, it also contains a stripped back touch control method to get you playing well quickly. Click play on the video below for my preview of the soft-launched version that's currently doing the rounds in Canada.…
Hands-on with Beach Buggy Racing, the free-to-play racer filled with floaty fun
I'm reviewing Beach Buggy Racing over on Pocket Gamer, and this sequel to Beach Buggy Blitz is already shaping up to be a stonkingly good free-to-play arcade racer. It's bright and colourful, it's thrilling and tense, and it's just so beautifully put together. Here's a quick look at the game, which is out now globally.…
Hands-on with Ninja Raft, where pirates, ninjas, and sailing clash
Pirates? Check. Ninjas? Check. Sailing? Check. Hardcore strategy with tower defence elements? Check. Check it out.…
Modern Combat, Infinity Blade, King of Fighters, and more going cheap in first wave of App Store bundles
Everyone loves a bargain, and things don't get much more bargainous than premium mobile games getting bundled up into one big package of awesomeness. Happily the App Store now gives developers and publishers the option to bundle their games together for a price that's much lower than buying all the titles individually. The launch wave of bundles is epic. Modern Combat 3, 4, and 5 for just £6.99, £1.49 will bag you Angry Birds, plus Seasons, Space, and Star Wars, and SNK is doing a mega deal that includes Metal Slug 1, 2, 3, and X, together with The King of Fighters-i, '97, and '98, plus Samurai Shodown II for a measly £9.99. Did we mention there's also Infinity Blade,…
Hands-on with Dragon Quest, the JRPG masterpiece, rejuvenated
Originally released on the Famicom back in the mid-eighties, Dragon Quest is about as “classic” as classic JRPGs get. Koichi Nakamura, Koichi Sugiyama, Yuji Horii, and Akira Toriyama all collaborated on this genre defining first entry in the series, laying the groundwork for decades to come. It's now available on iOS and Android, so I've grabbed a code to show you the very early moments of the game, to give you a sense of how the game plays.…
EXCLUSIVE: iBomber 3 teaser trailer points to Metal support on iOS 8
iBomber was never a slouch in the visuals department, even back when it dropped its first payload 5 years ago, but iBomber 3 could well be a massive step forward for the series. We've just received the very first (and crushingly short) teaser trailer for the newly announced title... The eagle-eyed will spot that the logo now contains a metal texture, and the song playing in the background is classic metal track 'Ace of Spades' by Motörhead. I've confirmed with the developer - Cobra Mobile - that this teaser is indeed a nod to Apple's new Metal on iOS 8, functionality that should make games look even more impressive on iPhone and iPad. Could iBomber 3 have drastically improved visu…
Hands-on with RGB Express, a tiny little delivery of puzzling loveliness
Here's the deal: you have various coloured trucks, and each needs to pick up a parcel and deliver it to its destination. The truck can't double back on itself, and if you collide two trucks together then... well... you don't want that. RGB Express is cute and dinky and delightful, and it's just the right level of challenge to keep you thinking and experimenting, without frustrating. Here's my hands-on with the game.…
Surviving in Minecraft: Pocket Edition, Episode 4 - Shining Light
In the latest episode of my journeys through the lands of Minecraft: PE, I begin fortifying my home from attacks by exploding cactus things, simply by using torches. There's also a moment when I try to tickle a wolf with a feather in order to make it like me, and I begin journeying even further into the newly-discovered underground cave. Plus: physics?…
Hands-on with Spider-Man Unlimited, in which Spidey turns his hand to auto-running
Peter Parker is a beloved Marvel character, and he and his alter ego Spider-Man, are a source of inspiration to many people, young and old. They certainly are to me. So it's with a little sadness I have to report that my small amount of time with Spider-Man Unlimited has found it to be a fairly by-the-numbers auto-runner with combat elements. It's got some neat stuff packed away in there though, which I'll show you in my hands-on video below.…
Genre Busters: best futuristic racers on iOS
This is an important list to James and myself, as we were raised on eye-bleedingly fast racing games like WipEout, F-Zero, and Extreme G. Over the course of an hour we discuss futuristic racers new and old, reminisce over fallen franchises, and generally get all nostalgic. It's fun, you'll like it, so click play on the video below. No worries if you're not ready for a full hour of awesome, just click the links below to instantly jump to the content you want to see. 1. FlashOut 22. Repulze3. AG Drive4. Battle Riders…
Awesome! There's a new illo - Birth of the Cool trailer
illo - Birth of the Cool is shaping up to be... well... pretty cool. It's a non-violent adventure game with action and puzzle elements from Raylight Games, where you'll be controlling the eponymous hero using touch, tilt, and microphone inputs, to navigate them through beguilingly stark worlds in a strange and unique narrative that's told completely without words. As you'll see in the trailer, there's a rewind mechanic in there just in case you make a mistake, the puzzles look left-field and off-kilter, and the visuals are stripped right back to the (still gorgeous) fundamentals. We're keen to see how illo - Birth of the Cool turns out when it comes to iOS and Android (and PSN, XBLA, Wi…
Hands-on with Kapsula, where racing puzzlers solve you
Kapsula is set on a futuristic Russian communist planet, populated by clones who are all controlled by The Master. If that wasn't quite enough of an odd setup, the gameplay is somewhere between a cross of a racer, endless runner, and puzzler. Bizarre, but cool. Here's our video explaining why.…
