Perfection calmly making its way to the App Store
Sometimes you don't want to play an angry game about murdering people or aliens, sometimes you just want to cut up shapes until they look like other shapes. And that's precisely what Perfection allows you to do. From the developer of Sling It!, the game is a pleasingly simple experience that sees you drawing lines through different irregular shapes to make another irregular shapes. It boasts that it has infinite variations of puzzles too, which is quite a lot of puzzles. With lots of soothing, endlessly forgiving gameplay to engage with, and a system that means you never have to go back to a puzzle once you've completed it, there's plenty here for the casual gamer to get their teeth into,…
Star Command finally arriving on iOS
It's been a long and bumpy road for Star Command, but after two Kickstarter campaigns, $200,000 of crowd funded cash, and a year of slipping release dates, the game is finally set to hit the App Store on the May 2nd. The game puts you in control of your own space ship, letting you build it as you see fit, and populating it with a diverse cast of characters. Once you're jetting about the galaxy you'll encouner diverse alien races and get in laser battles with them, The game's going to hit the App Store for $1.99 and it'll be a universal app, which is quite fitting for a game that's about exploring the cosmos. We've embedded a trailer below for your viewing pleasure, but bear in mind it did…
Dark Avenger gets a dark trailer
Do you want to be a dark avenger? Do you even know what a dark avenger is? Well, by the looks of the first trailer for Gamevil and Boolean Games's upcoming iOS game, it involves a massive amount of murder, flashing numbers, and picking stuff up. The game appears to be a pretty standard dungeon crawling hack and slasher with expansive character customisation options, lots of loot to find, and screen-fulls of enemies to reduce to quivering wrecks with your sword swinging antics. We don't have any word yet on when the game's coming out, but we wouldn't be surprised to see it landing on the App Store in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, check out the trailer we've embedded for your pe…
Lego Batman: DC Superheroes swings onto the App Store
If you like superheroes, building things, smashing things, and large winged rodents, then you're in for a treat today, because Lego Batman: DC Superheroes has made its way onto the App Store, bringing with it all of those things and more. There are two control methods that let you throw Batman and company around the game, with a newly designed scheme for touch screen devices and the more traditional floating joystick both vying to be the one you poke the most. With more than 80 characters to unlock, special abilities to master, and a huge story driven single player campaign to explore, there's enough content here to keep you playing for a good long while. The game is available from the Ap…
Fancy slaughtering some zombie mutants?
House of the Dead: Overkill took the lightgun franchise into some brilliant new territory, infusing it with a 70's exploitation vibe and a lot more blood and gore. It's big, silly, and now there's a new version on iOS. Called The Lost Reels, the game features the original cast of the Wii hit, and throws them into three stages of gory b-movie style violence. Shoot mutants, collect cash, and upgrade your weapons to become the best zombie slaughterer on the planet. If you like your shooters grim and blood splattered, but not afraid to have a cheeky wink to the camera, then House of the Dead: Overkill The Lost Reels is likely to be right up your alley. Throw in a survival mode and three differ…
Haunted Hollow creeps onto the App Store
There might be quite a buzz around the iPad version of XCOM, but Fireaxis is easing itself into the iOS game gradually and first on their list is the tactical spook story Haunted Hollow, which is available right now on the App Store. It's a game about marshalling your minions into effective fighting groups, storming towns to capture the townsfolk, and generally being as frightening as you can. There are Fireaxis's strategy finger prints all over the game – base building, different units, resource gathering – but it's all presented in a twee cartoon style. You'll mainly be fighting against friends and enemies in the multiplayer mode, but there's a solid single player campaign he…
Hiversaires is a cryptic point and click adventure
Back in the old days you didn't have maps in your games, you had to make them yourself, drawing out the turns and encounters you came across as you explored whatever labyrinth the developer had made for you. And that sense of discovery is something that Hiversaires is aiming for. Created by Devine Lu Linvega, the game takes place in a shadowy futuristic world, presents you with no text, and leaves you alone to explore, experience, and puzzle your way through its stark grey corridors with taps and swipes. This isn't your standard iOS fare, as you might imagine, and it's not going to spark much interest in the casual crowd, but for those who long to be the cartographers on their own expediti…
Iron Man 3 trailer arrives, possibly heroically
Last summer, Gameloft released a couple of superhero movie tie ins – The Amazing Spider-man and The Dark Knight Rises. While neither of them was spectacular, they were solid third person brawlers with a premium price point and a good chunk of heroic content for you to get your teeth into. Fast forward to now and Iron Man 3 is the latest license that Gameloft has their hands on, but rather than building a similar free-roaming beat 'em up, they've turned Tony Stark's latest adventure into a free-to-play endless runner where you spend money on upgrading Iron Man's suits. They've just released the first trailer – you'll find it embedded below – which shows what you can expect…
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles run onto the App Store
If you grew up in the late eighties then you've probably got a soft spot for four mutated amphibians named after famous Italian painters. Well, they're seeing something of a resurgence at the moment thanks to a new animated series from Nickolodeon and an upcoming blockbuster movie reboot. And now they're available on your iOS device in endless runner form. Based on the Nickolodeon cartoon, the game sees you choosing your favourite of the turtles and running through an endless city scape punching goons out of the way. There's plenty of fan service going on, as you'd imagine, although we're not sure about the control system, which appears to use a single tap to do everything. Still, the idea…
Trial of the Clone hits the App Store
Tin Man Games has built up an impressive catalogue of digital game books, with licenses from Fighting Fantasy and Judge Dredd, as well as creations from their own imagination. Their latest springs from the mind of the creator of Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal Zach Weinersmith and features narration by geek legend Wil Wheaton. Trial of the Clone is a hilarious romp through a fantastical future that's not afraid to take sly digs at pretty much every famous science fiction series you can imagine. Full of swearing, gore, jokes, and terrible puns, there's a lot to like if you like a laugh. Using a variation on Tin Man Games's usual dice rolling system, the game plays a bit quicker than other…
They Need To Be Fed 2 coming soon
They Need To Be Fed is one of the finest platformers available on the App Store, with the only thing stopping it getting a perfect score in our review the simple fact that it was too short. Well, They Need To Be Fed 2 is on the way, and it's looking to set that problem right. The simple and effective look of the first game remains in place, with black platforms placed on brightly coloured backgrounds, and just like before you're going to be leaping around, defying gravity, collecting diamonds, and making sure the carnivorous beasts at the end of the level don't go hungry. There are a few twists to the formula too, with new obstacles, different plants that you need to grow to help you compl…
The Other Brothers gets control update
While we did enjoy The Other Brothers, one of our main concerns with the game was its controls. They were a bit on the sloppy side, and kept moving themselves around the screen rather than staying in one spot. Well, thankfully, 3D Attack Interactive has taken heed of the criticism thrown at the game and released an update that should answer some of the concerns a lot of people had with the game. As well as adding different touch screen control options, the new update also adds support for the iCade and iControlpad devices, letting you experience the game with physical controls if that's more up your alley. There are still a few quirks with the updated controls, but they do seem to be a da…
Cut The Rope dabbles with time travel
It's been a couple of years since Zeptolabs released a proper sequel to Cut The Rope, the physics based twine snipper that introduced the world to Om Nom, a candy obsessed froggy alien thing with an appetite for sugar that only you can sate. Well, there's a new adventure for Om Nom on the way and it looks like it's going to involve jumping through different periods in time thanks to a fantastical machine. We don't have a lot to go on so far, save for some images from the Facebook profile of Burger King, who are running a promotion to tie in with the game, of Om Nom in pirate get up and wearing a viking helmet. We've also got a story trailer, which we've embedded below, that shows Om Nom fo…
NES-Retku brings the pixel madness to iOS
If you like your iOS brawlers tinged with a pixel tinted, retro madness, then NES-Retku from independent Finnish developer Panic Art Studios is probably going to be right up your slightly mental alley. Starring Finnish video game celebrity Retku, the game is about critics who are dragged into an 8-bit beat 'em up when they play a suspicious video game cartridge. Cue lots of punching, running, and coin collecting as you try to figure out what's going on. With plenty of pixelated violence to keep you entertained, and a story that's guaranteed to be more ridiculous than it sounds, fans of old skool brawlers are going to be in combo bashing heaven when the game is released on April 18th. If t…
Dungeon Hunter 4 hits the App Store
The last instalment of the Dungeon Hunter franchise, Dungeon Hunter 3, split fans of the series. Some loved it, others found the new freemium model cloying and unpleasant. Well, Dungeon Hunter 4 is here now, and it's still a free to play title. There is promise, however. Gameloft is offering an epic storyline and plenty of areas to smash, slash, and steal your way through. There are four classes of brawler to choose from, each of which is upgradeable and customisable. If that's not enough for you there's also co-op arenas where you and a friend can battle it out against hordes of demonic scum, and a PvP mode that lets you show how much better your axe is than everyone else's. The game wil…
