Cor blimey! Dragon Quest VIII receives 25% discount on iOS and Android
My favourite JRPG ever is Dragon Quest VIII, and I love the fact that I can now play it on my mobile. The other members of Team AppSpy tend to agree, and we like it so much, in fact, that we featured it in our list of the best Square Enix JRPGs on iOS. The game is currently on sale, sporting a not-too-shabby 25% off, bringing the price down to $14.99 / £10.49. So if you go get it now you'll not only be nabbing yourself a chunky 75 hours of glorious and inventive JRPG adventure, filled with memorable characters, an exquisite soundtrack, and highly detailed visuals, but you'll also be saving a few smackeroos at the same time. Will you be picking up Dragon Quest VIII at this discount…
Hands-on with Tiny Tower Vegas, where gambling with slot machines and adorable pixel art combine
NimbleBit's latest entry in the Tiny Tower series is out now, and I'm giving it the old college try over on Pocket Gamer. So I thought “hey, I could do a quick hands-on with it too, just to show you what it looks like”. I'm resourceful like that. So here's some gameplay footage of Tiny Tower Vegas. If you want to find out more, check in with my review.…

Heroes of Order & Chaos update adds Twitch integration
The latest update for Gameloft's mobile MOBA, Heroes of Order & Chaos, has just gone live, and oh boy does version 1.7.0 come with some neat new features. Chief among them is the ability to stream your games via the magic of Twitch. This is the first time a mobile MOBA has included streaming support, and all the functionality you'd want from such a facility seems to be included - such as text chat, and microphone and camera support. We're big fans of streaming mobile games online, as you probably know by now, and it'll be interesting to see if this increases the number of mobile streamers out there. The new update also comes with three new heroes - a Fighter named Marithus, a Guard…
Wild Season is budding to be an adventure-filled alternative to Harvest Moon
Developed by Quickfire Games, and published by SOEDESCO, Wild Season is a top down farming sim with chibi visuals. You'll start off with a small out-of-shape farm, and hopefully build it up to be the pride of the local area, through a combination of hard work and farming smarts. You can also breed and race horses, spark relationships with NPCs, and improve the local town. Quickfire Games is hinting at including a storyline that goes beyond most games of this kind, and a mystery that can be uncovered as you progress. Consider our interest piqued. Wild Season will, according to the press release, be released on "PCs and tablets" in Q4 2014. We're going to assume that means iPad and Androi…
The best single screen multiplayer games on iOS
On the 25th August 2014 the AppSpy and Pocket Gamer teams were having a well-deserved break or the Bank Holiday Monday. Well, most of them were anyway. I decided to jump onto our Twitch channel and bring you a collection of the very best single screen multiplayer games you can get for your iOS device. Without James, Harry, or even Lovely Danny to help me, I decided to rope in my girlfriend - Alix Briskham of Opposable Games - to help me show them off. Also I played a bit of King of Fighters '98, to celebrate the series' 20th anniversary, just because I felt like it. If for some reason you haven't got 60 minutes to spare today, don't fret: you can use these handy links to skip straight…

Hands-on with Shurican, in which Flappy Bird meets ninjas in Hell
We've got a quick look at Shurican for you today. It's an endless action game in which you attempt to fly through a hellish corridor of enemies, obstacles, and traps, hoping to get a better score than your mates. It's not the most original game you'll play today, but it's certainly one of the toughest. It's also free, so it's worth giving it a shot if you're up for something a little off the beaten path. Here's our hands-on.…
Hands-on with The Walking Dead Pinball, where cold steel and colder bodies combine
What would happen if you were to take the video game adaptation of The Walking Dead, and give it to Zen Studios to make a pinball game based on it? Probably exactly what you think would happen: you'd get an awesome game of pinball, and it'd be called The Walking Dead Pinball. I went hands-on with the game recently to bring you early footage of the game in motion, click play on the video below to see it in action.…

Hands-on with Phases: Infinite Zero, probably the hardest platformer you'll play this year
Do you hate yourself just a teensy little bit? Well if you'd like to hate yourself a bit more, you can always download Phases: Infinite Zero. It's one of the hardest platforming games I've had the pleasure / misery of playing, and I like myself a little bit less for not being able to get past Phase 1. It's also a beauty to behold, the controls are spot-on, and it run flawlessly. Here are my first impressions with the game.…
Surviving in Minecraft: Pocket Edition, Episode 1 - Meeting Bertie
We always knew we wanted to do something video-related about Minecraft: Pocket Edition here on AppSpy, but in all honesty, neither James or myself are particularly great at the blocky world builder. And that's what's lead to us starting this Let's Play series. I'm going to try and learn everything I possibly can about surviving in Minecraft: Pocket Edition, and you're going to learn with me. I'll be playing the game every week and trying to survive in the harsh but beautiful world that is Minecraft, capturing it all for posterity. If you're a Minecraft: PE veteran, then I want to read your tips. If you're a newbie, you'll be able to play along with me. So without further ado, let's kick…
Learn how to play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite with AppSpy - Part 2
In the first episode we ran into serious trouble with pink apes. In this episode it's a gigantic boar that becomes a thorn in our sides. It's always something, isn't it? We're better prepared this time though, and we've brought with us not just hot drinks, but cold ones too. Harry also made us wear clothes (which is only fair, I guess), and this has greatly increased our resilience to the monstrous nasties that inhabit the sprawling world of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. So grab a hot or cold drink of your own, get comfortable, and click play on the video below, to continue learning how to play Capcom's beastie-basher for iOS. Miss the last episode? Check it out here.…

Life is full of big decisions. Should you try to save your best friend from certain doom, or help re-unite two lovers in dire peril? Learn how to play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite with AppSpy - Part 1
You know what's brilliant? Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is brilliant. We've got a review that says as much. But it's also dense. Very very very very dense. Because of this combination of challenge and quality, we called it "a slow, difficult, but rewarding crawl to greatness". So if you're new to the Monster Hunter series it can be a little off-putting to begin with, as you die again and again not quite understanding where you should be going, or what you should be doing, once you get there. Enter AppSpy, and an intrepid team of Monster Hunter players with varying levels of skill. Together we're going to teach you the ropes of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, as we ourselves learn them, and…
