SOULCALIBUR Unbreakable Soul Review
Soulcalibur Unbreakable Soul is an odd instalment in the Soulcalibur franchise. This mobile, free-to-play game abandons the weapons-based arcade combat for which the series is famous, and instead focuses on the stories of its colourful cast to form the foundation for a collectible card game. In Unbreakable Soul’s defence, the CCG elements have been fairly well though out. You have a deck that can hold three fighter cards, each of which is assigned three weapon card. Each ch…

Cave Story developer unleashes amphibian platformer Keroblaster onto the App Store
Daisuke Amaya, developer of the acclaimed PC and Nintendo DS game Cave Story, has just released his new platformer on the App Store. Keroblaster is a classically-styled 2D platformer. Taking clear inspiration from the 8-bit era in both graphics and gameplay terms, the game has you jumping between lo-fi platforms blasting anything in your path. The whole thing looks like it could be based on a long forgotten 80’s Saturday morning cartoon about a suave, jetpack-wearing lizard out to save the world. However, unlike licenced games of the period, Keroblaster may actually be quite good, as Amaya’s previous work demonstrates he's a dab hand at creating tight platformers. If you fa…

Watch The Video ReviewSega’s Dragon Coins mixes monster training with penny shove combat
Sega’s new free-to-play game Dragon Coins takes the monster training mechanics from Pokemon, and adds combat based on coin-dozer arcade machines. Its an odd combination, but play a little and it starts to make sense. You take a team of five monsters into battle, each of whom sits under one of the five lanes down which coins can be nudged. Dropping coins in the top of the coin dozer pushes the existing penny pile forward, causing some to fall into the monster channels, and the monster to attack. Much like the arcade machines Dragon Coins mimics, this leads to an addictive mix of tactics and luck during battles. Collecting different coloured coins has different effects. For example,…
New Modern Combat 5 classes and XP system revealed
Gameloft has just revealed more details about Modern Combat 5: Blackout, outlining the game’s multiplayer classes and level progression system. Last week's announcement focused on the upcoming shooter's mission structure. This new reveal has swung the focus back towards multiplayer, outlining the four character classes: Assault, Heavy, Recon, and Sniper. The four soldiers types are all archetypal, with Recon equipped for close range, the Sniper specialising in distance, and the other classes sopping up everything in between. That said, the class list does show an absence of any support roles, indicating that the focus is on all-out action. We've also been given details a…

Warhammer 40,000: Carnage Review
Within the 40K universe, Space Marines are walking tanks. If you are being invaded by hundreds of Orks, all you need is one of the Emperor’s finest to hold back the storm. This is exactly the feeling Warhammer 40,000: Carnage attempts to deliver. Rather than commanding a squad. you take control of a single Ultramarine ploughing through waves of Orks. Armed with only a bolt pistol and a combat knife you set out to find Captain Tychaeus, a space marine champion that has falle…

METAL SLUG DEFENSE Review
When we think Metal Slug, our minds turn to classic arcade side-scroller action. What we don’t think of is the tower defense genre. However, that is precisely the catagory which SNK Playmore's new free-to-play title Metal Slug Defense falls into. That's not to say that there isn't some crossover between the classic games and this new enterprise. Creating a 2D side-scrolling tower defense title has allowed the developer to lift art straight from previous Metal Slug games. Th…
