BackStab Review
On one hand we've already had an Assassin's Creed game on the iOS - your mileage may vary on how successful it was for you, but we got one. On the other, Gameloft have decided to give gamers what they expected to see, albeit with a pirate-y touch in BackStab. Henry Blake has been betrayed by his supposed long-time friend Kane for crimes against his people and after four years Blake is finally given the opportunity to escape his imprisonment and seek revenge. So far, so standard, but i…
Watch The Video ReviewThe best games on sale for iPhone and iPad right now - December 13th
It's that time of the week again. The time of the week when I take some time out of my busy schedule of napping to write some content about the best games that are currently on sale on the App Store. You can click on the names of the games below to download them from the App Store. Oh, and since I like you I've actually added 6 games to the list. That's the sort of care and attention you can expect from AppSpy. You're welcome. Assassin's Creed Identity - 99p / 99c It might be a little on the wonky side, but this is actually one of the best AC games to come out in recent years. It's pared back, but that gets rid of a lot of the fluff that we've seen in the console iterations of the game.…
Bridge The Gap 2 Review
If Bridge the Gap 2 has taught me anything, it's that pirates are capable of only the most rudimentary physical abilities. If you want them to not fall down chasms to their untimely demise, they need the invisible hand of a pirate engineer to place wooden poles, barrels and boxes down so they can not only get to their precious flag, but collect any gold coins along the way. Pirates do love their booty after all. Each level gives you a set number of resources to use, and a limited sele…

Arrr! Pirates vs. Aliens Review
Arrr! Pirates Vs Aliens is a rail shooter game for the iPhone. Players are aboard a pirate ship and must shoot all attacking alien forces. Along the way, you collect rum which you can use at the ‘booty store’ to purchase gun upgrades or repair your damaged ship. The game is controlled by 3 areas at the bottom of the screen. You scroll around in the bottom left corner to control the gun, tap gun itself to change weapon and tap the bottom right corner to fire the gun. While…
Watch The Video ReviewPirates Plunder Slots Review
Pirates Plunder by Pokie Magic is a vibrant new nautical themed slot machine for the App Store and as always it's another faithful adaption of a casino quality game. If you've never played a Pokie Magic slot machine game before there's not much to learn. It's a pick up and play game, which is obviously a good thing for a game designed for use in a casino. There's also an auto-play feature to assist on long stretches. The game's main feature mode unlocks a screen with treasure chests t…
Watch The Video ReviewPirates vs. Ninjas vs. Zombies vs. Pandas Review
Yes... I know what you're thinking. Don't say it - just don't. I get it OK? I mean we've been over this dozens of times before and I honestly don't think it's ever going to end, so we don't need to continually go on about it for every game. I mean... Pandas? How are they going to compete against Pirates and Ninjas and Zombies... am I right? But in all seriousness, Pirates vs. Ninjas vs. Zombies vs. Pandas (PvNvZvP) is what it is - a physics based puzzler involving things being shot at…
Watch The Video ReviewScurvy Scallywags Review
Ron Gilbert really likes pirates. I mean you would probably expect something of the sort from the man who created the Monkey Island series, but after games like Deathspank and The Cave, it's interesting to see him return to the subject - and in a match-3 game, no less. This puzzler tells the story of a buckaneer who has set off on a grand adventure not on the high seas, but on the stage. That's right: this tale of pirates, swashbuckling, treasure, and sea shanties is for the amusement…
Watch The Video ReviewThe people behind Plunder Pirates hired a galleon, filled it with nerds, and had a #PlunderParty
New York Comic Con may be a hazy memory for some, with sepia-tinted scenes of meeting the stars of geekdom and hanging out with their fellow nerds. For some, the memories are probably even hazier. Like some of the Midoki lot, probably, as they threw a massive party at the event for their latest game Plunder Pirates, on a galleon bedecked in a jaunty pirate theme, no doubt replete with bass cannons. They captured some of this #PlunderParty on film and put it out there for all to see / be massively jealous they didn't get an invite. Plunder Pirates is out now, for free, on iOS. [App Store link]…
Enter the Clan Wars with Call of Duty: Ghosts companion app
Another day, another iOS companion app for a high profile console release. This time, it's Activision offering stat-tracking fans a free way to interact with the newly-released Call of Duty: Ghosts via their iPhone or iPad. Provided you're running iOS 6 or higher, the Call of Duty app lets you control multiplayer match settings like squad selection and weapon loadouts from your touchscreen device. If you're the territorial type, you can also set up your very own clan, and compete against rival groups to seize control of the Clan Wars map. Attacks can be co-ordinated using the built in chat system. You can even use the Clan Emblem Editor to ensure your image of a skull is the best…
The AppSpy retrospective - The 3 best games of February 2016
Ah February. The shortest month of the year. Tiny little February, wandering around all lost and lonely and wondering why hack journalists keep anthropomorphising it for their strained introductions to retrospective pieces. February might not have been a golden month for iOS gaming, but some gems did emerge from the dirt. And a lot of dirt was wrapped around the gems. There was a low gem to dirt ratio is what I'm trying to say. Anyway, here are the three best iOS games that came out in February 2016. It was a long time ago, but I think I've remembered it right. Join us next time for March, which was much, much better than February. _Prism A game with a name that screams “please d…
