Hands-on with Plunder Pirates, the booty-full strategy management game from Rovio Stars
It's easy to make Clash of Clans when talking about Plunder Pirates because... well... well because it's a very clear inspiration for the game. But when you see it running it becomes clear how much more impressive this game is with its presentation: this is a super high quality production, with tip-top visuals and excellent soundtrack. The longer you play the game, the more you begin to realise that this isn't a simple knock off job, it's an evolution of the core strategy management genre ideas, with compulsive exploration elements thrown in for good measure. Take a look at the hands-on below, then let us know what you think in the comments.…
Game of Dice has received a pirate-themed update
Game of Dice has just been updated with a ton of new content and features themed on pirates. The aptly-named Pirate Attack update includes a new event map themed on a pirate ship which changes the toll system so it matches up with the nature of pirates. There's also a bunch of new island spots like Treasure Island which trigger special skills when you land on them. If you were hankering for a new character, this update won't let you down. There's a lady pirate who specialises in Vacation Spot Tolls waiting to be played. You'll also find four new themed skill cards (one of which is craftable) and a new dice - the Monkey Dice - which specialises in Vacation Spots and Toll Increases. Ple…
Brand new Plunder Pirates video puts the 'pee' into 'F2P'
Midoki's put out a brand new animation for its free-to-play strategy management game Plunder Pirates. It's a typically tongue-in-cheek video, and though it's totally safe for work, it's definitely a bit cheeky. Got an iOS device and fancy playing the game yourself? Get it from the links under the video, and urine. [App Store link]…
DomiNations is a highly detailed looking strategy game coming to iOS and Android next year
There's a new trailer doing the rounds for the first title to come out of Big Huge Games and Nexon's recent partnership - DomiNations. I'm in two minds about it. On the one hand there's a danger that it could turn out to be just another strategy management game in the mould of Clash of Clans or Tiny Realms or Plunder Pirates. In which case that's fine, but there's not an awful lot to get excited about. While on the other hand, the sheer scope and size of DomiNations' planned gameplay is really quite impressive, suggesting an unprecedented level of detail, and countless upgrade paths. The game plonks you in control of a nation in the Stone Age, and it's your job to take them into the…
Hands-on with Ninja Raft, where pirates, ninjas, and sailing clash
Pirates? Check. Ninjas? Check. Sailing? Check. Hardcore strategy with tower defence elements? Check. Check it out.…

Sea of Conquest: Pirate War launches worldwide after a hugely successful soft launch
After a highly successful soft launch that racked up a staggering 100 million downloads, Funplus has released its highly anticipated strategy game Sea of Conquest: Pirate War. This mobile release will be followed by a PC one later this month, but that takes away a lot of freedom being stuck to a desk, and how un-piratey is that? What makes this number even more impressive is that the soft launch was only in a select few territories, which speaks volumes by itself. Following a story created by AAA writers and full of adventure, and more importantly treasure, now the whole world can hit the high seas together and rule the waves. Sea of Conquest: Pirate War mixes base management with some thr…
Space-pirate strategy game PlunderNauts is currently looting the UK and Canadian App Stores
Backflip Studios brings pirates and space (space pirates?) together in its new free-to-play strategy game, PlunderNauts, which is out now on the UK and Canadian App Stores. The game has you guiding your pirate ship through the galaxy on a quest to discover Iron Beard’s lost treasure. Naturally, you'll be maintaining the pirate code by looting the star systems for booty, and battling enemy vessels along the way. Battles play out in real time. Like more traditional navel warfare sims, you must maneuver into the right position by dragging your ship around the battlefield, taking into account the range and trajectory of your craft's cannons. Different crew members offer a va…

Magic Orbz Review
Let's get this out the way. Magic Orbz is Arkanoid with lush 3D visuals and some very fun power ups. The only thing magic about the orbs in question is the amount of destruction they do, and as usual with this type of game, why they never travel where you want them to. Now don't get the wrong idea right off the bat, this game is not being maligned. We're just explaining the experience in its simplest terms before we explore further... so let's do that now. Now if you're watching our v…
Watch The Video ReviewSpice Bandits Review
In one of the more funny introductions to a game we've encountered in a while, Spice Bandits introduces the Spice Bandits, a galactic brand of pirates who plunder entire worlds in search of their precious addictive habit. Now they've set their sites on Earth. Most games would have you fight back the invading forces, but not this one. Do you have what it takes to help the pirates beat back Earth's defense force all in the name of spice? If so, please continue with the review. Once the…
Watch The Video ReviewGalactic Phantasy Review
When you first look at a game like Galaxy Pirate Adventure by Sunfish Studio Limited, it's hard not to be misled and think you're in for a Privateer-like experience set in a pirate-infested universe. The first hint is in the game's description as it clearly calls itself a 'full 3D RPG', which is literally exactly what it is. You play as the Prince of Pirates, however you've been cast out in to the 'waters' by your father (the 'King' of Pirates if you're wondering) to adventure and gro…
Watch The Video ReviewRayman 2: The Great Escape Review
Back when every developer and their dog was making 3D platformers, one of the standouts was the Rayman series by Ubisoft, with its ghost limbed protagonist and colourful world. The sequel made its way into 3D and has now been ported to the iphone. The Glade of Dreams has been taken over by robot pirates from outer space! They have imprisoned most of the locals. Rayman must collect the thousand Lums and reunite four magical masks to awaken the world spirit to get rid of the pirates. Co…
