Embrace the wrong side of the law as Albion Online releases the Rogue Frontier update

There is that old adage that “crime never pays”, and clearly Albion Online has never heard that because the latest update is all about that sweet, sweet outlaw life. Rogue Frontier is expanding the Outlands and adding a host of ways to enjoy some light-hearted larceny.  You can work with the new Smugglers Faction and undertake missions such as recovering Smuggler Crates and battering the Royal Guard to free captured Smugglers. Failing that, you can simply collect Smuggler’s Coins hidden away in Caches and Coffers to simply buy your way to higher ranks. And if you thought the word Smuggler has already been used too much already, boy you are in for a shock. Increasing…

Digital Extremes does it again with a devstream showing enough content to make us all impatient for March

It has been a long time coming since the Techrot started to infest our favourite virtual boyband, but it is finally time to face On-lyne in Warframe. The latest Digital Extremes Devsteeam unveiled details of 1999's follow-up update, Techrot Encore, launching in March. Excitingly, we are going to get four new Protoframes, and I sincerely hope one is Ash, but we won’t know until Devstream 185. We do know we can finally knock the Technocyte Coda around to earn Infested weapons. For even more musically inspired content, the 60th Warframe Temple was teased as the Guitar Warframe. Outside of combat, the Romance and Relationship System is being tuned up, and there is a 90s-inspired cosmetic…

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light brings tomb-raiding fun to mobiles in February

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light brings tomb-raiding fun to mobiles in February

I feel like a lot of my generation's first exposure to 3D action adventure was Tomb Raider on the PS1. Lara Croft is one of gaming's most iconic characters for this and many reasons. Soon, players can re-experience one of her side adventures, as Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light readies itself for mobile launch. Guardian of Light was quite the departure from the usual outings of one of our favourite explorers. At least in the case of gameplay, she is always accidentally plundering something mystical. Croft’s instinct to always go after the thing that could potentially wipe out large swathes of the earth is almost impressive. But I digress. The gameplay takes the form of an almost…

Marvel Snap developer's Second Dinner announces a parting of ways with publishers Nuverse

Marvel Snap developer's Second Dinner announces a parting of ways with publishers Nuverse

This month I gained a phenomenal level of respect for Second Dinner, developer of Marvel Snap. Due to publisher Nuverse being affected by that ban in the US, Snap was taken offline for a bit. Now, to ensure that doesn’t happen again, Second Dinner has announced they are splitting with Nuverse and publishing with Skystone Games instead. We are going to keep the politics out of it as we recap, but as I have often theorised; TikTok is the root of all evil and suffering in the modern world. Earlier this month the US banned TikTok, following threats against ByteDance, the fellows behind the social media app. Unfortunately, this ban hit everything else owned by ByteDance, which included Nuv…

Streaming service Utomik is shuttering after nearly three years of service

It is a sad time in the world of online gaming as cloud gaming subscription service Utomik has announced that they are closing their doors. This puts an end to the company that only formed back in 2022, but already offered a huge library to choose from as and when you liked. There wasn’t a concrete reason given for this in the official announcement, but then when is there really? The company simply say they “fought long and hard” but it “was not enough”. It is quite a shame. Whilst they may not have stocked a big selection of Triple-As, their indie offerings were quite substantial. Unfortunately, the demise of Utomike can probably be blamed on the likes of Mic…

Rust Mobile reveals an Alpha Test for February with incredibly restrictive requirements

Good news for those who want to practise living in a world where everything wants you dead and you have to scavenge for every little thing; Rust is coming to mobile. If you would like to help shape development then you could try to get involved in the 7-Day Alpha Test hosted this February. Try being the operative word. The rules for this Alpha are about as harsh as the gameplay can be. To start with, it is only available on Android, and you need at least a Snapdragon 8 gen 1 Processor, 6GB of RAM and 4GB of storage. And then, if that wasn’t exclusive enough, it is only open in Canada. Pretty small sample size.  Moving on from the big ones, there are also a few more. To start you…

Wield your squeegee for the wrong side of the law as Serial Cleaner mobile pre-orders open

I have been playing a lot of Hitman 3 lately, and whilst I do tend to go for the quiet route, things can get out of hand. Screwdrivers are thrown, someone might inexplicably explode, and it's all a right ruddy mess. You never think about the aftermath of these bloodbaths, but with the mobile release of Serial Cleaner on the horizon, you might change your tune. Serial Cleaner places you in the shoes of Bob C. Leaner, and with a name like that, what else are you going to grow up to be? Besides a rather slanted tower in Pisa. Anyway, faulty foundations aside, you are a man contracted by the mob to clean up the evidence of their hits and other nefarious activities. The big problem, however, is…

Play Together celebrates the Year of the Snake with rampaging rice monsters

The Lunar New Year approaches, and we are entering the Year of the Snake. I unfortunately don’t know what that means in a wider context although I would love to learn, but I do know that Haegin is celebrating with the Full Moon Rice Cake Workshop in Play Together.      The workshop can be found over in the Plaza, but in true Kaia Island fashion, it’s gone a bit wrong. Well, a lot is wrong, the rice cakes have turned into monsters and have destroyed the workshop. That is where you come in. You are tasked with rebuilding the workshop, and, as thanks for doing so, will be buried in goodies. The Rice Cake Worshop Top Apprentice Hanbox, Rice Cake Workshop Petal Cheopj…

Wuthering Waves continues our adventures in All Silent Souls Can Sing

Since 2.0 launched in Wuthering Waves, we have all been enjoying the story, grabbing some new Echoes, and flying around the world for ultimate exploration. The momentum is going to keep rolling with the release of Phase II, All Silent Souls Can Sing, introducing new events, and characters to collect. Our new hero here is Roccia through the Stage in the Box Convene. Her kit stands her in perfect stead to act as a Sub-DPS for a Havoc Main. Roccias’ Resonance Liberation can increase the team's ATK scaling based on her Crit Rate. Add this to her Outro Skill that offers a flat boost to Havoc DMG and Basic Attack DMG, and she will boost your Rover or Camellya to new heights. The second ban…

Adventures of a Cat in Space unveils a free demo launching next month

Sometimes all you need is a title to sell something to you, so when I say Adventures of a Cat in Space is coming soon, I assume everyone is already hooked. It will also be packing a free demo, so if you are even vaguely interested in a space-bound feline you can check it out for nothing but your time. Players will take on the mantle of a cat who has been stranded in space, who’d have thought after an unfortunate accident. Your goal will be to make it back to earth to your life of cardboard boxes and swatting things off tables. To do this you will need to explore planets and solve puzzles. During your journey, you will be aided by the ship’s computer, voiced by Arthur Darvill. T…

Infinity Nikki celebrates upcoming Version 1.2 in explosive form with a host of free rewards

Since launching last month Infinity Nikki has done pretty well for itself, garnering a generally positive reception, gaining over 20 million downloads, and racking up over $15 million in its first month. Looking to build on this early success, Version 1.2 will be ushering in the Firework Season on January 23rd. Whilst they might have missed the boat a little bit on the New Year's fireworks displays, we can give Infold Games a pass because the trailer does look quite pretty. You can strike out to the Fireworks Isles from Flora Wharf, and explore the lands steeped in the legend of the Fireworks Sprite.  You will be able to explore the picturesque views of Songbreeze Highland, relax in t…

Genshin Impacts settle FTC case with no admission of wrongdoing

Genshin Impacts settle FTC case with no admission of wrongdoing

After a long investigation, the Federal Trade Commission has reached a settlement with Genshin Impact in the case of violating children’s privacy and deceiving players. The key word here is settlement, the developer has not admitted or declined fault, they just want it to go away. Here is the fallout. HoYo will pay a $20 million fine. Genshin Impact itself, not the rest of the HoYo catalogue, made around $700 million last which was the first year it came in under $1 billion. So monetary value-wise, absolutely nothing. The changes they have to make are also negligible.  Children under 16 won’t be able to buy the loot boxes without parental consent, good luck enforcing that.…

Registration for the 2025 PUBG Mobile Global Open are now available

Tencent has been in the news an awful lot lately, with those legal troubles in the US, rumblings of a deal involving Ubisoft, and the FFXIV Mobile development. That last one isn't that recent, but I wanted to mention it anyway. In happier more immediate news though, the PUBG Mobile Global Open is back! Whilst this won’t affect those of us who try to cower our way through battle royales, folk out there who can actually get eliminations should be very excited. Not only can you strut your stuff on a global stage, but the PMGO has a very mouth-watering $500,000 prize pool. You will need to consult your calendar and banish any fear of flying, as the Main Event will take place in Tashkent,…

Sky: Children of the Light explodes in colour in the Season of Radiance

Sky: Children of the Light explodes in colour in the Season of Radiance

The world of Sky: Children of the Light has always been quite a stunning place design-wise. Even the characters have their own sort of eerie beauty to them, despite those terrifyingly soulless eyes. Piercing stares aside, Sky is set to get even more joyously looking, thanks to the Season of Radiance. As the name invokes, things are about to get a lot more shiny primarily through the use of colour. As you travel throughout the world you will start to notice that a few new types of Dark Plants have begun to sprout. If you harvest them you will get different colours of Light which you can craft into dyes. Of course, we all know what to do with dyes; big colouring in pens. You can make a numbe…

Cassette Beasts launches on mobile and is truly a must-have

Cassette Beasts launches on mobile and is truly a must-have

My entire decision to purchase an Xbox Series X was based on wanting to play Starfiel; a decision I do not regret, it is a great game. I subscribed to Game Pass, poked around a bit, and proceeded to spend a week playing one single game. Not Starfield no, but Cassette Beasts.  Luckily, you no longer need to carry an Xbox and a TV around to play this phenomenal game, as Cassette Beasts is now available on mobile. Both Android and Apple wielders will be able to dive into New Wirral and explore one of the best Pokeclones there has been. Definitely better than the latest Pokemon outings at the least. If you never had the joy, Cassette Beasts is a monster-taming RPG where you wonder the wor…
